Position Description: Director of Nursing

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Job Location: Oxford, MS

1. The responsibility of the Director of Nursing is to manage the nursing department, supervise Licensed Practical Nurses and ensure proper nursing care of patients. In addition, the Director of Nursing ensures that patients’ medical and personal needs are met in accordance with the Stonewater Adolescent Recovery Center (Company) policies and procedures and state regulations. The Director of Nursing shall perform the following duties and function as a part of the treatment team:

  1. Be punctual in reporting for scheduled shifts. Notify CEO in cases involving emergencies or other factors that may influence work attendance, early shift leave and punctuality.

  2. Be flexible and available to respond to calls, emails, texts and chat messages from members of the team..

  3. Participate in equipping, encouraging and empowering each patient to be and do all they were created to do while helping them to understand that they were created on purpose for a purpose.

  4. Be responsible for developing a healthy relationship with patients (whether individually or as a group).

  5. Handle any incidents, crises, perceived dangers, elopements and/or conflicts in a professional and loving manner. Notify all emergency personnel and necessary staff members in crisis situations and complete all necessary paperwork related to incidents in a thorough and timely manner.

  6. Obtain vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rate) and report any abnormal findings.

  7. Notify MD of lab results.

  8. Obtain and process specimens for laboratory orders.

  9. Perform and document patient assessment as needed and document nursing notes as needed.

  10. Perform an initial patient assessment on admission along with COWS, CIWA, VS, weight, substance use history, TB skin test, lab collection and processing and documentation of current medications.

  11. Provide basic wound care including cleaning and bandaging injured areas.

  12. Administer as well as assist, supervise and document the self-administration of scheduled and PRN medications.

  13. Supervise and provide life skill training including, but not limited to, personal hygiene, washing/folding clothes, bed making, ironing clothes, choosing outfits appropriate for occasions and seasons, setting a dinner table, table manners, etc.

  14. Teach appropriate conflict management resolution skills and relational boundaries.

  15. Provide and receive Nursing Shift Report at shift change.

  16. Encourage compliance with the Company’s expectations and policies with all patients, staff and volunteers. Address any conflicts and concerns directly in a professional, loving and confidential manner.

  17. Ensure daily documentation is completed including, but not limited to, Nursing Rounds, Nursing Shift Checklist, incident reports, MAR, nursing notes, Concurrent Review Assessment, etc.

  18. Notify patient guardians of medication changes, injuries, illness.

  19. Schedule patient appointments as needed.

  20. Order medical supplies, lab supplies, urine drug testing supplies and supervise inventory list maintained by LPN to ensure other appropriate supplies are ordered.

  21. Supervision of LPN nursing duties. Meet with LPN staff individually for monthly One to One meeting and perform LPN Growth Reviews according to policy.

  22. Lead Nursing Impact Meetings biweekly.

  23. Perform quarterly urine drug screens of all staff.

  24. Attend mandatory staff meetings, continuing education and training events as directed.

  25. Participate in all team-building activities.

  26. Provide new hire orientation training.

  27. Schedule shifts for LPNs and approving timesheets, overtime and leave for LPNs.

  28. Supervise nursing and art groups lead by LPN.

  29. Perform other duties as assigned.

2. Educational/Professional Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

  2. Current state RN License.

  3. Minimum 5 years work experience.

3. Personal Qualifications:

  1. A passion to see individuals who deal with mental health and substance use disorders experience healing, life change, and purposeful living and believe that change can happen under the conditions defined in the Company vision statement, mission statement and core values.

  2. Good time management skills and an ability to multitask.

  3. Must be able to self-initiate activities/tasks.

  4. Good physical health and emotional maturity.

  5. Able to work with the patient population within state regulations and policy and procedures even if regulations/policy goes against personal beliefs.

  6. Able to uphold the Company vision statement, mission statement and core values.

  7. Able to work with patients/staff/volunteers who have varying faith backgrounds.

  8. Experience in working as part of a team.

  9. Good communication skills.

  10. Access to a reliable vehicle.

  11. Current and valid driver’s license and seven years of driving experience.

  12. Clean DMV record.

  13. Proof of current, effective driver’s insurance.

  14. Child Abuse Index Check clearance.

  15. Fingerprint/DOJ clearance.

  16. Health and TB clearance.
