Job Description

The Surgical Dental Assistant plays an important part in the success of our practice. The Surgery Assistant focus is working chair side to ensure patient comfort, care and safety by partnering with the doctor to provide efficient Periodontal surgery. In addition to patient care, the Assistant will maintain and sterilize equipment and operatories, type doctor notes and participate in the organized and efficient operation of the practice.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Assist the periodontist during a variety of treatment procedures
  • Partner with the doctor to provide efficient Periodontal surgery
  • Proactively review patient schedule and patient charts and participate in daily huddle meetings in order to be prepared for patient appointments (chart review, system updates, notes, etc.)
  • Ensure patient treatment plans, appointment plans and route slips are completed accurately and timely
  • Update patient charts the system (Open Dental) timely and accurately with patient information, treatment plans, notes, etc.
  • Set up and breakdown operatory post treatment
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment
  • Provide unparalleled customer service to patients and referring doctors
  • Educate patients at every opportunity and encourage treatment
  • Exhibit behaviors, performance and appearance that promote an elevated practice environment
  • Meet all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards
  • Cover for other team members as needed
  • Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Dental Assistant Certificate
  • X-ray certification
  • CPR certification
  • Phlebotomy certification (preferred but not required)
  • 3+ years’ work experience in dentistry
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of Open Dental or similar software application
  • Valid Driver’s license
