The Nurse Practitioner plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates health care for all designated patients, coordinates with other health care professionals in order to provide appropriate interventions and placement within the appropriate levels of care. The NP also accepts responsibility for professional practice and behavior as defined by the Board of Registration in Nursing and in collaboration with the Department of Medicine and the Department of Behavioral Medicine.
The Nurse Practitioner will:
Assists in review / acceptance for admission of potential patients when complex medical and / or psychiatric issues are present.
Obtain admission history from the patient and/or family member.
Perform a physcial examination consistent with the Steward / Good Samaritan Medical Staff policy.
Instructs patients and families about the inpatient detox treatment plan.
Performs STDs/HIV-AIDs/TB risk assessment according to BSAS regulations and provides risk reduction education as appropriate.
Write admission orders for appropriate medications, lab tests, interventions and x-ray exams.
Provide consultation regarding medical regimens for hospitalized patients and refers complex patient care issues to supervising physician for consultation and recommendations.
Provide emotional support to patients and families in the early recovery process.
Responds to all medical emergencies and provides guidance to staff in the management of such emergencies.
Prepares needed documentation for medical or psychiatric transfer of patients and provides receiving facility with 'hand-off' communication.
Participates in clinical supervision with supervising physician according to policy.
Participates in quality improvement activities.

Required Knowledge & Skills:
Authorized for prescriptive practice, or eligible to apply
Experience with Behavorial Health , i.e. psychiatric gerophsychiatric, alcohol/drug abuse
Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing, graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program
1 year experience as an Adult Clinical Nurse Practitioner or equivalent nursing practice experience; medical/surgical expereince, prior experience in psych and substance abuse required
Current licensure in the Commonwealth of MA as a RN/NP and BLS required; CPI preferred.
