Research Associates: In addition to the capabilities and ability to perform the tasks required of lab technicians, candidates should have specific advanced training or experience in soil or plant science, biogeochemistry, ecosystem science, ecology or a related field. The ability to identify plant species, to use plant taxonomic keys, to identify mycorrhizal fungi, or to identify and describe soil horizons is desirable. Knowledge of complex statistical procedures, applications, and interpretation including experience with statistical software packages such as R, SAS, SYSTAT, SPSS, or JMP is required. Knowledge of techniques used in spectral analysis and/or experience with spectroscopy and chemometric software is valuable. Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary.
Research associates will be expected to plan and execute studies or experiments under the guidance of and in collaboration with EVS staff scientists. Research associates will also be expected to write and publish results in scientific journals and/or contribute data analyses and text to publications and proposals prepared by EVS staff scientists. Research associates will be expected to find, read, and synthesize relevant scientific literature in support of these activities.
Research Associates: The minimum qualification is a M.S. in biology, microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, ecology, soil or plant science, biogeochemistry, geology, or related fields. For some projects, a Ph.D. and/or multiple years of experience also may be necessary. 0 - 30 years of experience.
