Chief Commercial Officer

Management of the commercial components of the company, which includes Business Development, Business Operations, and Marketing. In this role, the Chief Commercial Officer will provide leadership to position the company at the forefront of the industry. Ancillary responsibilities include the development of business and strategic plans to advance the company's mission and objectives and to promote revenue, profitability, and growth as an organization. Interface with Company ownership to ensure that all goals and objectives are identified and met.

Primary Responsibilities
- Oversees the team that develops and nurtures relationships with key decision-makers in the industry
- Develops an annual Business Development Plan, including annual goals and target for all key performance metrics
- Ensures implementation of the Business Development Plan, which includes corporate positioning, competitive landscape, and forecasting sales and activity objectives
- Provides management oversight of all direct reports within the Business Development/Marketing/Business Operations teams and indirect reports within the Finance and Business Development/Marketing teams as needed
- Coordinate with Finance, COO, and CEO to ensure Business Development goals align with overall corporate goals
- Receive, review, and approve reports from Finance related to monthly, quarterly, and annual financial objectives
- Coordinate with the COO and other Management team members as needed on key client escalations, opportunities, etc. to ensure that these relationships are optimized
- Periodically reviews annual business development plan to determine where adjustments may be required
- Plans and implements quarterly objectives, including budgeting of time and resources, and communicates with staff, as appropriate, to achieve annual goals and objectives
- Develops strategies for all appropriate clients in conjunction with the Business Development team
- Anticipates and identifies client challenges that may evolve from time to time and provides solutions in accord with company policies and procedures
- Oversees maintenance records for clients, such as account profiles, contracts and proposals, sales and budget and communications in Salesforce
- Maintains current professional level of knowledge in Data Services and related technology to serve as a basis for providing "value added" expanded services to all appropriate clients
- Oversees weekly updates to management and the Business Development team of new activities in the assigned territory, including urgent and important issues
- Actively participates at professional meetings and conferences as appropriate
- Regularly communicates with SDC's active clients to assess their level of satisfaction and to identify any issues that need to be addressed by business development and/or operations
- Coordinate with business development and operations staff to ensure regular communication occurs with SDC's past clients to identify any additional business opportunities with them and/or other candidate clients they recommend
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
- Adherence to all essential systems and processes that are required at SDC to maintain compliance to business and regulatory requirements
Requirements
- Successful track record selling services and related technologies to the Life Sciences market
- Prior background in the sales of contract clinical research services, strongly preferred Demonstrated ability to develop new market opportunities
- A broad understanding of SDC service/technology offerings and processes
- This position requires the ability to travel extensively in support of new and existing business development efforts
- Demonstrated influencing and negotiating ability as well as the ability to sell in a senior executive or trusted advisor role to senior client management
- Ability to thrive working independently and as part of a collaborative team environment

- Passion, energy, personal drive, and motivation
- Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written), a strategic mindset, an ability to interface at an executive level and a polished presence are required
Education or Equivalent Experience
- Bachelor's degree in applied or life science (or business) with at least ten years of increasing business development related position responsibility experience (preferably in the clinical trial industry).
- An MBA or other related advanced degree is preferred.
