To collect specimens and perform laboratory tests as ordered by physicians and nurse practitioners. To recognize errors that invalidates test results. Initiate and carry out quality control procedures to keep the lab compliant with CLIA and other Federal and State regulations. Implement new procedures as indicated by changing medical technology and maintain up-to-date knowledge. Review manuals and assist in update and implementing new technology as indicated.
## **Minimum Qualifications:**
* The person holding this position must satisfy the requirements for the following as defined by the Clinical Laboratories Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA): laboratory director, technical consultant, and testing personnel. This requires a bachelor's degree in medical technology (clinical lab science) and a minimum of two years of lab experience and two years of supervisory or lead work experience. * Certification and maintenance of certification by an official certifying agent, such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. * Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of bacteriology, serology, parasitology, virology, cytogenetics, hematology, urology and clinical chemistry. * Considerable knowledge of the sources of clinical and other specimens and the ability to correlate such knowledge with the performance of laboratory procedures. * Considerable knowledge concerning the use and standardization of complex and sophisticated laboratory equipment. * Computer proficiency sufficient to function in our lab with an interfaced electronic health record. * Organizational skills are required to plan, assign and lead the work of technical laboratory staff. * Ability to prepare comprehensive work reports, evaluate laboratory practices and make recommendations for the improvement of procedures, methods, facilities and equipment. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly relay test results and instructions to patients, medical providers and other lab personnel. * Ability to interpret technical regulations and guidelines and be able to develop and write lab policies and procedures and relay information to staff. * Experience in providing training and advising, in a lead-worker capacity, professional staff including hiring, training, coaching, and professional development.
