Visiting Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies

The Theology Department of St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas invites applications for a two-year non-tenure-track faculty position in Biblical Studies at the rank of visiting assistant professor. The position requires in-person teaching in San Antonio beginning August 16, 2022. The teaching load is four classes in each of the fall and spring semesters. Service expectations include attending departmental meetings, participation in workshops, mentoring, and interdisciplinary engagement with colleagues and students across the University. Contract renewal will be contingent upon performance and University needs.
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate in biblical studies or a related field (dissertation defended by July 14, 2022).
- Ability to teach New Testament or themes substantially grounded in the New Testament.
- Compatibility with the mission of St. Mary's University and adaptability to serve first-generation and historically underrepresented students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to teach core introduction to theology or Hebrew Bible.
- Background or aptitude to support the distinctive character of theology in the Southwest United States and the Marianist charism of the University's founders.
- Experience and/or learned expertise regarding mentorship of graduate students, majors, and minors.
- Experience and/or learned expertise in inclusive pedagogical practices.
