Job Description

St. Clare Catholic Academy is seeking a passionate, enthusiastic kindergarten teacher to foster and facilitate the intellectual, spiritual, emotional and social development of the children. Teaching in kindergarten includes planning, implementing and assessing lessons. You will teach and care for children with patience and creativity. Kindergarten Teacher duties include designing a teaching plan and using activities and instructional methods to motivate children.

Under the direction of the school leadership, the Kindergarten teacher is responsible for supporting the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens in its mission to evangelize and catechize youth in a Catholic Elementary School environment and teach full time Kindergarten grade students for the remainder of the 23-24 school year, based on NY State Standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church; a teacher may not espouse any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Church.

Give evidence of lived Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of personal faith journey; strives to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.

Help build the school’s faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate in and plan school religious and service activities.

Passionate and energetic kindergarten teacher who will prepare the students to enter first grade.

Provide a safe, warm and welcoming environment for our students to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Demonstrate effective planning skills by preparing lessons designed to implement NYS aligned standards with goals and objectives incorporated by the school and diocesan curriculum.


Use a variety of activities and instructional methods (songs, stories, media, structured games, art, outdoor activities etc.) to motivate and stimulate children’s abilities.

Develop and use effective methods of evaluation that are directly related to curriculum objectives, concepts and skills taught.

Navigate the classroom with kindness, compassion and patience to ensure a fun learning environment that supports the needs of students with various abilities and experiences.

Actively participate in school community responsibilities such as assemblies, arrival and dismissal of students, lunch duty, etc.

Have strong classroom management skills.

Establish a consistent disciplinary approach which promotes self-direction and positive self-image; sets and models high standards for student behavior and manages inappropriate behavior effectively.

Build family relationships through regular communication.

Excellent communications skills including written, verbal, public speaking, and presentation skills.


Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Proficiency in the use of computer technology including Google Suite and related technology.

Coach and mentor assistant teacher to develop a strong classroom teaching team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited university verified by official transcripts. Master’s degree and NY State certification strongly preferred.

Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and be well-organized; must be a team player.

NYS certificate or eligibility to apply within 3 years.

The ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
