Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for supervision of payroll, accounts payable, billings, and financial statement preparation as well as day to day financial operations. This individual will also be responsible for financial aspects of employee benefits administration. The ideal candidate will have a solid knowledge of accounting practices and principles, be detail oriented and a team player with interpersonal skills to communicate at all levels.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise, hire, evaluate and train accounting staff.
  • Supervise and provide support for Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Billing functions.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, reconcile financial accounts and prepare financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Coordinate and supervise petty cash transactions.
  • Oversee day to day operations of the accounting department.
  • Coordinate and review financial aspects of employee benefit administration.
  • Generate and analyze financial reports.
  • Prepare program budgets and track variances between actual and budgeted expenses.
  • Develop, document, and maintain accounting process and procedures.
  • Verify accounting policy and procedures are being adhered to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Assists with the annual financial audit, retirement audit and 990 preparation.
  • Assists with annual budgeting, projections and business planning.
  • Assists with various project as needed for the CFO.
  • Serve as a member of agency management team.
  • Supports the goals of the agency mission.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Five years related experience, non-profit experience preferred.
  • Ability to supervise assigned staff, two years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and practices.
  • Ability to multitask, problem solve and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required; proficient in Word, and Outlook
  • Blackbaud Financial Edge and ADP experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of budget concepts and formulation.
  • Ability to train, mentor and lead a team.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and liability insurance and good driving record.
  • Operation of general office machinery (computer, copier, fax etc.).
  • Local travel as required fulfilling essential functions of the position.
