ED NURSING MANAGER

Duties include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care and economical and efficient performance
- Develops, implements, and reviews practice policies and procedures.
- Enhances operational effectiveness
- Coaches ED staff and providers in organizational philosophy and objectives regarding staffing and performance standards, policies and procedures, and regulatory compliance.
- Maintains open communication with staff to ensure high employee morale and a professional, healthful atmosphere.
- Maintains all required records, reports, and statistics.
- Ensures all care documentation meets the standards of the organization.
- Rapidly and accurately assigns triage categories and places patients.
- Possesses practical, technical, and professional skills required to safely and effectively assume the role of the Emergency Department RN in the event of a shift vacancy or sudden surge of patients within the Department.
- Revises standard discharge instructions to accommodate the patient’s learning needs and evaluates the effectiveness of learning. Family is included in teaching as appropriate.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians and coworkers.
- Communicates effectively with ED providers and/or Hospitalists regarding organizational procedures, requirements, and limitations.
- Collaborates with CNO to identify opportunities to improve patient care flow.
- Performs management activities and assists with hiring, orientation, and training of ED nursing staff and providers.
- Continually evaluates staff performance.
- Initiates appropriate disciplinary actions related to performance issues.
- Pharmacy Nurse relief functions.
- Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
- Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
- Consults with other departments as appropriate to provide and collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
- Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in patient teaching and plan of care upon transfer or discharge from the department.
- Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates continuous quality improvement indicators to improve patient outcomes and the work environment.
- Documentation meets current standards and policies.
Skills, Knowledge, & Experience Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
- Preferred BSN.
- Current licensure in Oregon as a Registered Nurse is required.
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications are required.
- ENPC certification is preferred in place of PALS certification.
- TNCC certification preferred.
- CEN certification desired.
- At least two years of Emergency nursing experience is required.
- Recent background in emergency care is required.
- Experience with employee supervision is required.
- Electronic Health Record proficiency is required.
