Southern California University of Health Sciences offers intensive science courses both online and on-ground that can be completed in five weeks. Students in the Accelerated Science courses are completing science perquisites in order to apply to graduate school in the health sciences on their way to becoming Physician Assistants, nurses, doctors and healthcare professionals. Most students are full-time working professionals. Under the supervision of the Director, the Instructional Lead in Biological Sciences is responsible for undergraduate-level lecture and lab courses in Anatomy and Physiology; Microbiology; General Biology; Human Genetics; Human Nutrition.
Successful candidates are generalist subject matter experts and instructional coaches, proficient in course content and instructional methods for relevant subject areas. Instructional Leads provide quality assurance for assessments used in each class, verifying that assessments align with course learning outcomes and external standards-based assessments. In addition, the Instructional Lead will closely with instructors to provide targeted support to students to ensure mastery of concepts and individualized remediation as needed.
The Instructional Lead assists the Director in assigning adjunct faculty workload and conducting classroom observations. This position also includes up to 0.5 FTE of teaching responsibilities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Maintain master syllabi for all classes, including updating syllabi at the beginning of each academic year to reflect current trends in science education Oversee test banks and rubrics for all classes, ensuring quality of mastery-based assessments for each course learning outcome Review and approve assessments developed by new instructors Oversee timely feedback from instructors and timely submission of final grades Support student retention, referring students to relevant academic support services or to Director as needed Teach online and/or on-campus classes as needed (no more than 0.5 FTE per term) Maintain Canvas Course pages and ensure timely publication of Canvas Course pages at the beginning of each term Maintain online course platforms in McGraw-Hill Connect and support faculty in acquiring technical assistance as needed Assist Director in hiring and onboarding new faculty members Assist Director in conducting observations of classroom teaching and creating faculty development plans Mentor new faculty as necessary Supervise lab technicians in creating and maintaining lab manuals Supervise lab technicians in maintaining laboratory supplies and cleanliness Keeps abreast of developments in the field by engaging in professional development activities.
