Job Description

SOUTHERN ARIZONA COMMUNITY ACADEMY (SACA) is a cutting-edge, tuition-free charter high school located in Tucson, Arizona. SACA students have the option of studying on-site at our headquarters in Tucson, or attending SACA online from anywhere in the state. 

 

With a focus on developing students who are critical and creative thinkers who will be ready for a life of continued learning upon graduation, SACA provides a truly personalized education and curriculum with self-paced courses and flexible hours

 

Today, the Academy has succeeded as an alternative school whose mission is to prepare mature students academically as well as emotionally, with the strength and fundamental knowledge necessary to carry them through their lives.

 

We are seeking a dynamic High School Social Studies Teacher to join our SACA team! 

 

Employment Type: Full-Time Teaching Position, $37,500 Starting Salary with Bachelor’s Degree

Responsibilities:

 

• Teach in an Alternative Charter School in a library setting

• Work one-on-one with students through individualized and self-paced instruction 

• Use Personalized Learning Program, digital curriculum and textbooks with teacher input/design

• Be passionate about teaching History and Government

• Develop and Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and administration 

• Assume leadership/sponsorship of at least one student activity/club/sport

 

Qualifications/Expectations:

 

• Bachelor's Degree in History or the Social Sciences or 24 college credits in Social Science/History courses, with 1-3 years teaching experience preferred  

• Team player with colleagues, administration, staff, and parents

• Understanding of the academic and personal needs of alternative students or willingness to learn  

• Motivated to create and present engaging lessons/activities to supplement established digital curriculum  

• Effective classroom management skills

• Ability to build rapport with students

Able to finish courses early, no waiting for other students to finish
Able to graduate early
Promotion of individual responsibility and integrity as well as team building opportunities
Promotion of student involvement in high interest activities: sports teams (the SACA Eagles), music, art club, media production club, math club, creative writing club, reading club, Science and tech club, strategic partnership of student involvement with local dog rescue: The Sanctuary Project
Involvement with community members as mentors or volunteers
