Provide medical nutrition therapy at ELMC, for patients of all ages and a variety of medical diagnoses.
The most difficult decisions or recommendations are analyzing disease states and providing Medical Nutrition Therapy. The Clinical Dietitian must have the knowledge and ability to provide patient education and therapy for a wide variety of disease states. The Dietitian must be able to customize the nutrition education based on the disease state, patient's stage of readiness and lifestyle. It is important to work as part of an interdisciplinary team with other medical/clinic staff to coordinate the patient's care.
Manages ELMC Medical Nutritional Services operating budget
+ Provide nutrition assessments, counseling and medical nutrition therapy for patients of all ages and with a wide variety of medical diagnoses. Document each assessment, counseling, and patient education session using the pcc, dictation system, and ALERT software. Keep the nutrition program in compliance with Joint Commission standards and requirements.
+ Provide medical nutrition therapy as needed for patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, prediabetes and gestational diabetes.
+ Serve as member of Diabetes team and other teams as assigned. Actively participates in the interdisciplinary Case Management Team. Designs and implements a quality assurance nutritional program and gives feedback to the providers and medical director.
+ Bachelor Degree from school whose Nutrition, Dietetic, Institutional Management Programs is accredited by Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetics Association (ADA)
+ Completion of an approved dietetic internship program
+ Two years of experience as a clinical dietitian preferred
+ Dietetic Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
+ Licensure from the State Of Alaska, Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development, Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing required within six months of hire
+ Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
+ Advanced level of medical nutrition therapy and clinical knowledge
+ Working level of computer knowledge
+ Some knowledge of human behavior and techniques for effective behavior change
+ Clinical nutrition services: screening, assessment, diagnosis, education, intervention, monitoring and evaluation using the Nutrition Care Process for patients at all levels of care and age
+ Education, counseling, and teaching
+ Competent using basic computer software: Microsoft Word, Publisher, PowerPoint and Resource Patient Management System (RPMS) or other electronic medical record charting software
+ Work with other staff members: the Hospital Nutrition staff as well as other healthcare professionals: physicians, nurses, Ward Clerks and other diabetes team members.
+ Function independently on assigned patient care units.
+ Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form to patients, public, hospital and medical staff, and physicians.
