We are adding another Production Editor to our team to fuel our growth
Are you looking for an opportunity to flex your production editor muscles while managing our kids titles?
Are you a project manager who thrives on managing project details?
Do you enjoy keeping multiple balls in the air at once?
What you will be doing as the production editor:
Manage 75 titles per year, from initial start-up through to final close to printer, including full schedule ownership and task coordination
Coordinate and regulate all phases of the book production process, including copyediting/proofreading, art and proof reviewing and design consistency, hitting benchmark dates or projecting new benchmarks as needed
Collaborate with editorial teams, captaining the exchange of materials and developing and improving processes as to needed to create and maintain efficient production standards
Hire and supervise freelance vendors as required, providing detailed guidance and structured feedback to simultaneously strengthen vendor partnership
Communicate project details to all relevant parties, including editorial and author, design, manufacturing, sales, and marketing, serving as a true project manager
Manage special projects and additional assignments as assigned by the managing editor
You will be a great candidate if you have/are
3+ years experience in publishing production or educational equivalent, including project management and knowledge of the bookmaking process
Bachelors in English, journalism or other related field
A plus if you have knowledge or experience with kid's book publishing
Flexible enough to switch priorities to take advantage of the biggest opportunities that drive the business toward success
Able to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic publishing environment without sacrificing quality for deadline
Superb attention to detail and deadlines
Exceptional written and verbal communication with multiple stakeholders, including office staff and freelancers, and a clear ability to communicate with high-ranking officers and stakeholders
Knowledge of and experience in manuscript styling and tagging
High-level copyediting and proofreading knowledge
Deep familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including track changes), and Adobe Acrobat (including PDF markup) and other Adobe Creative Suite applications
During COVID, this position will work remotely. After the effects of COVID have subsided, this role will work in person in our Naperville, IL office. This is not a 100% remote position.
