WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Scilex is a commercial-stage company launching its first product. We are looking for enthusiastic and talented individuals who thrive on challenge and change, who can roll up their sleeves, put on multiple hats and have a can-do attitude without a lot of oversight or instruction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the VP of Finance in building out the accounting, internal and external reporting, and financial planning and analysis functions
- Manage, develop and mentor the finance and accounting teams
- Good understanding of SEC financial reporting, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and US GAAP is expected from this role
- Implement and improve processes in conjunction with internal control environment/SOX with assistance from external expert service providers
- Support technical accounting research and documentation
- Support the company’s collaboration with external auditors
- Manage monthly close and quarter-end accounting and consolidation cycles, and respective calendars
- Review revenue recognition accounting and any other collaborations
- Support interactions with external tax advisors
- Oversee upgrades and implementations of accounting software
- Support periodic and quarterly filings
- Prepare information necessary for the preparation of the annual tax return and quarterly and annual tax provision. Ensure that all indirect taxes are calculated and paid on-time.
- Partner effectively with finance and non-finance team members to drive improved controls and process enhancements, and overall financial performance for the Company
- Assume new responsibilities and perform adhoc requests
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting or Finance required
- CPA, CMA, CFA is strongly preferred
- 10+ years’ experience
- Knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Strong analytical and accounting skills and good understanding of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)
- Experience in public accounting (Audits, consulting etc.) is a strong plus
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities to meet regular and critical deadlines
- Ability to contribute to and work within a cross-functional team
- Must possess the ability to take initiative to complete assignments and job responsibilities with minimal supervision
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and culturally diverse workplace environment
- Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, clarity, accuracy, and conciseness
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, bill.com, Concur, preferred NetSuite or other ERP.
- Preferred experience in a mid/large-sized publicly traded corporation.

- Good judgment and experience in solving problems.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and frequently changing priorities
- Must have established knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting.
