Job Description

 

Role and Responsibilities

· Escort patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measure vital signs, including weight, blood pressure and document all information in patient’s chart

· Ensure all diagnostic, test results, imaging and patient information is ready for physician

· Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician

· Assist physicians with examination and treatment of patients, for example; giving injections and removing sutures

· Explain treatment procedures, medications, and physicians' instructions to patients

· Change dressings on wounds

· Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat, clean and stocked

· Provide patients with surgery details including pre and post op instructions

· Ensure that surgery orders and clearance are sent to the appropriate hospital in a timely matter

· Maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow

· Authorize drug refills as directed and provide prescription information to pharmacies

· Properly dispose of expired medications

· Perform general office duties such as answering patient calls, completing prior authorizations, and scheduling/rescheduling/ canceling appointment

· Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests and/or admission

· Ensure physician schedule are scheduled appropriately

· Cover for all medical assistants as needed during his/her absence

· Travel to various offices for clinic as needed; ensure that all materials needed for clinic are provided at facility or brought with you to clinic including your physician materials such as computer and Dictaphone

· Ensure billing is done by provider

Role and Responsibilities OCCASIONALLY REQUIRED

· Fill in at the front desk

· Fill in for some medical record tasks

Qualifications and Education Requirements

· High school diploma is required

· Pain Management experience preferred

· MUST BE a registered or certified medical assistant to apply

· Minimum of 3 years in an orthopedic or other specialty office preferred

REQUIRED Skills

· Thorough knowledge of medical office practice and orthopedic procedures

· Knowledge of medications being distributed by a physician

· Knowledge of various Computer software; including EMR (Electronic Medical Records)

· Knowledge of HIPAA/OSHA compliance

· Appropriate biohazard materials disposal

· Good verbal and written communication

· Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette

· Ability to problem solve and work independently

· Thorough knowledge of medical terminology

· Scribe for provider

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· Able to stand 4 hours or more

· Able to twist, stoop, kneel, and lift

· Able to lift up to 20 pounds

· Able to sit and work consecutively using appropriate body mechanics

· Has a reliable transportation to travel to any office for clinic

· Act appropriately during clinic and non clinic hours. No speaking to patients or co-works inappropriately

HOURS REQUIRED

· Monday through Friday 7/8 AM to 4/5 PM as needed by clinic
