Director, Project Management

The Director of Project Management mandate is to build and lead a world-class Project Management capability that supports Sonder's unique operating model and brand promise. They will manage and grow a team of 45+ project manager professionals throughout North America (Canada, USA and Mexico) and be responsible for all phases of the Sonder new building process including due diligence, design management, planning, entitlements, permitting, pre-construction, cost analysis, value engineering, construction, staging, and closeout.

Experience with project construction monitoring, schedule management, budget management, FFE Procurement and installation management, and building best-in-class tools and protocols to provide critical feedback to support the expansion of our portfolio and brand standards is essential.

In this role, you will be working cross-functionally with internal (interior design, guest experience, real estate, etc.) and external stakeholders (architects, general contractors, FF&E vendors, etc.) to bring our physical spaces to life and ensure our projects are developed on-time, on-budget, and to brand standards. This individual should thrive in a fast-paced and constantly shifting environment to support market growth, build out a new generation of tools, processes, and training to ensure newly signed properties open on time, on budget, on brand and fulfill our revenue expectations.

They will report into the VP of Design and Development and play a key role in developing the future of the Project Management team structure at Sonder.

AT SONDER YOU WILL:

• Develop a world-class Project Management capability that ensures Sonders open on time, on budget, on brand and ready to ramp revenue
• Responsible for organizational growth, career development, and resource management for project management teams across multiple geographies and levels
• Collaborate with cross-functional leadership to build and improve tools, processes and communication specifically to drive Project Management efficacy
• Support the development of a hotel takeover playbook and capabilities by creating a hotel takeover sub-team within the Project Management org
• Collaborate with external stakeholders for priority projects and markets
• Set strategies and OKRs for yourself and your team and establish KPIs for metrics and measurement
• Develop a future roadmap for Project Management capability focused on improving efficiencies, building competencies and developing talent to support Sonder's growth ambitions

WHAT WE LOOK FOR:

• Minimum 10 years leadership experience in operations, project management, construction and budget management. Hospitality industry and hotel Project Management and project management experience required
• Scheduling, Project Controls, Cost Planning, Cost Management, Estimating and Life Cycle Costing along with Business Monitoring, Dispute Resolution, Procurement and Risk Management services experience required
• Professional services and FFE Procurement Management a plus
• An analytical and data-driven decision making mentality
• Experience with or strong excitement for a startup environment
• Proven track record of managing and developing high performing (remote) teams across multiple geographies
• An ultimate team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to influence and motivate indirect individuals
• Excels at working cross-functionally in a matrixed workforce
• Out-of-the-box thinker who will find creative ways to hit opening goals
• Familiarity with real estate development, construction/renovation, and interior design a plus
• Required to travel up to 30% throughout the continental US.
