Job Description

This position is dedicated to enhancing the ability of all Stores to seek and serve all in need, especially at the Manager, ASM and Key Holder levels, for the achievement of the SVdP mission.  The duties include floating around all locations to (1) fill-in during absences and vacancies, (2) train for consistency and (3) identify potential talent across the Council area.  In addition to providing classroom training, the position will typically work for one-two weeks at a given location and is ultimately responsible for strategic workforce management by increasing employee engagement and retention at Stores while ensuring consistency in practices across locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Store Management Responsibilities

  • Build strong working relationships and maintain effective communications with all teams
  • Address team concerns and provide direction as needed
  • Identify business challenges and suggest appropriate action plans
  • Ensure all business operations are done in accordance with organizational standards
  • Assist individual store management with development and implementation of business strategies to maximize opportunities for generating additional store sales/volume
  • Assist store management with controlling expenses and identifying revenue opportunities
  • Assist with implementation of marketing and merchandising strategies for increasing sales and donations
  • Assist with forecasting and planning of store budgets and monitoring operating budgets
  • Assist with employee recruitment/staffing, promotion, retention and termination activities
  • Role model and driving force who sets standards for customer service for employees and volunteers on customer interactions that are consistent with SVdP values
  • Ensure teams always follow company policies and procedures

 

Store Training and Development Responsibilities

  • Identify skill gaps and work with HR and SMEs to develop and implement training that provides sustained labor readiness
  • Create individual development plans; coach, guide and monitor progress
  • Manage Safety program and Workers’ Compensation together with Director HR
  • Manage, develop and execute against project plans and timelines
  • Host live in-classroom, recorded and on-site training
  • Identify common patterns in areas that need to be emphasized in initial training standards
  • Maintain, develop and organize current and accurate training material, handouts, worksheets, job aides and training evaluations
  • Share best practices across all locations
  • Report on team readiness to upper management

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) preferred
  • Seven (7) years’ experience and/or training that included retail management; multi-unit and non-profit experience preferred
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as needed

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of:

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Retail and merchandising management (Advanced level)
  • Mathematics and reading comprehension (Advanced level)
  • Quickbooks POS, preferred
  • Paylocity HRIS, preferred
  • OSHA requirements for Workers’ Compensation

  •  Encourage store teams to exceed customer service and mission standards
  • Develop and implement training for adults
  • Analyze all aspects of the business (e.g., P&L, Employee performance, customer behavior)

  • Coaching and developing store management to optimize performance and provide succession for the business
  • Efficient and effective decision-making
  • Understanding different learning styles and address in training delivery
  • Customer service and conflict resolution
  • Driving same store sales
  • Actively looking for ways to reduce costs
  • Working collaboratively with key partners across the business

Physical:

  • Frequently lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and /or move up to 100 pounds
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit
  • Frequent local travel to Stores, Conference and District sites
