Pittsburgh North Summer Youth Soccer Coaching Intern

Soccer Shots
Cranberry Township, PA
  • Expired: May 07, 2021. Applications are no longer accepted.

We have a particular need for Saturday and/or Saturday morning coaches in the Pittsburgh North region at locations including Adams Township Park, Blueberry Hill Park, Hopewell Township Community Park, North Park Pie Traynor Field, Pine Community Center, Hartwood Acres, Hope Lutheran Church (Cranberry). Weekend instructors are also needed in the Pittsburgh City region at locations including Schenley Oval and Frick Park.

**Soccer Shots will be offering summer programming for chidlren ages 2 to 8 during the summer of 2021 (June through August). Instructors are needed to run the programming and summer camps, which are located throughout the greater Pittsburgh area. We do have other locations throughout the Greater Pittsburgh Area (north, south, east, west, city) and can place coaches elsewhere if desired.**

**In addition to working our morning camps, the opportunity also exists (for those who can commit to it) to coach on weeknights and/or Saturday mornings for our 9 week summer soccer season.**

Passionate, energetic, and fun-loving Soccer Shots instructors are needed to work with children ages 2 to 8 in the greater Pittsburgh area! Most important is that our coaches have previous experience with and an appreciation for young children. There is a pre-set Soccer Shots curriculum with weekly lesson plans to follow and equipment and coaching apparel is provided.

Soccer Shots operates year-round on the basis of seasons; each season lasts 9 to 11 weeks. We run sessions at various locations throughout the Greater Pittsburgh area. Sessions are scheduled for weekday mornings (typically anywhere between 8:30 AM and 12:00 PM); weeknights (typically 4:45 PM to 8:00 PM); and weekends (typically 8:30 AM to 12:00 or 1:00 PM). Given this, there are many different scheduling blocks and locations where we could fit you in!

Coaches are expected to be available and present for their particular time slot(s) all 9-11 weeks of the season, as the children and parents are dependent upon consistent leadership and attendance for the entirety of the season. You'll be at the same location(s) at the same times each week, and we need you to be committed for the entire 9 to 11-week season.

During their first season, part-time Soccer Shots instructors typically work 5-10 hours per week. Hours will be dependent upon the timing of your application / hiring, your availability, your location / willingness to drive to our locations, and capability. As a small business, we have many different areas in which you may participate and gain experience, and we are looking for instructors who are looking to join our team for at least two seasons so they can continue in their growth and progression within our organization.

An initial (paid) training period is required for all new coaches, and consists of online training and in-person training. We require new coaches to work as an Alternate Coach / Coach-in-training (whenever possible) before being deemed ready to coach alone / as a Head Coach.

Instructors should also be willing to perform other duties as requested in order to to help drive to our Vision, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our Organization's Values. Duties may include assisting with paper flier drop-offs, placing yard signs around the area, attending company events, participating in in-person and online staff training meetings.

Compensation is $18/session for Head Coaches and $10/session for Alternate Coaches / Coaches-in-training. Each session is 30 to 45 minutes in length, depending on the particular age group.

Are you looking for a great part-time job where the work is meaningful and fun?

Do you want to work somewhere you can get real job experience while making a difference in your community?

Are you passionate about sports, education, being a positive role model, and impacting young children?

If yes, you've come to the right place! At Soccer Shots, we change lives. We help children learn, grow and meet their goals. We care. Soccer Shots Pittsburgh is an engaging children's soccer program for children ages 2-8 with a focus on character development. Our caring team positively impacts children's lives on and off the field through best-in-class coaching, curriculum and communication. Our vision is to provide a beloved growth experience for every child and a remarkable experience for every family.

The ideal Soccer Shots instructor MUST meet the following criteria:

  • Experience with YOUNG children: Must be able to easily engage and interact with 2-8 year olds, and have experience doing so. This is very important.
  • Enthusiastic: Must enjoy interacting with young children (2-8 years old); able to connect with children and to communicate on their level. You must be very outgoing, animated, and able to be silly with the children. There is no room for shyness or reserved behavior; we need ENTHUSIASTIC coaches!
  • Responsible: Arrives at least 20 minutes early to each session; comes prepared with lesson plan memorized; can handle a group of 10 or more children; keeps accurate attendance; communicates well with Soccer Shots leadership team as concerns and needs arise, etc.
  • Professional: Neat in appearance; friendly and courteous with daycare / school staff and directors / principal and parents; self-assured and confident.
  • Self-sufficient, Communicative, and Responsive: The duties of position make it such that good communication and feedback from our coaches is necessary. Coaches must be self-regulating in that they must keep themselves on track and must reach out to us when they need something or if they have questions; we are unable to hold hands or micromanage.
  • Dependable: Unless applying to a season-specific opportunity (summer-specific opportunities for example), applicants must be willing to commit to, at minimum, two full 9-11 week seasons of Soccer Shots; we need an honest and true commitment. There should be no expectation (spoken or unspoken) that you will back out on your commitment to the children and their families. If something unexpected arises, you must finish out the current season before resigning.
  • Reliable PERSONAL transportation and valid driver's license: reliance on public transportation, ride sharing, or alternative forms of transportation (bicycle) has been shown to be highly unsustainable given the locations at which we work.
  • PA State-Required Clearances: Candidate must be able to provide clear PA state clearances and clear FBI fingerprint clearance upon acceptance of an offer of employment.
  • Soccer: Soccer experience is preferred but is not required. If you are great with children and have just basic familiarity with the game, that should suffice.
