The firm has maintained a domestic and international presence in the exclusive practice of landscape architecture since 1982, undertaking a variety of award-winning and marquee projects. Recognized for its excellence in the design and implementation of both public and private sector projects, the company has earned two National awards from the American Society of Landscape Architects fifty-three design awards from the Florida Chapter of the ASLA, and six Frederic B. Stresau Awards.


POSITION SUMMARY

The Company is looking for an exceptional Chief Operating Officer to help the firm become more robust, relevant, and competitive. The COO will oversee the companys business operations, manage and implement best practices across administrative, finance, legal, IT, and HR functions and drive continued efficiency. The COO will manage the firm's day-to-day operations, including client service, project delivery, and support services, and ensure that required operational resources are adequately provided to support the firms design-first strategy. This role will report to the CEO and Founding Principal.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement, and manage an operations plan designed to achieve the firms business objectives and its vision
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership and management related to the firms financial and administrative operations
  • Manage finance and budgeting with a focus on ensuring that overhead expense delivers optimal efficiency, effectiveness and profit
  • Hire and develop outstanding talent across various business and support functions and institute competitive health, retirement, and other wellness plans for employees
  • Help the firm adopt new technology & tools to enable its employee to achieve peak performance thereby helping the firm maintain a competitive edge in the market
  • Responsible for maintaining and ensuring availability of existing systems and tools
  • Responsible for review and approval of contracts related to property leases, vendors, and all major purchases
  • Responsible for managing the firms risk management program including participating in review of non-standard project and subcontractor contracts and coordinate with legal counsel and professional liability carriers
  • Define requirements, review, and negotiate firms general business insurance, key-man insurance, health, life, disability and dental policies
  • Co-lead development of effective organizational policies and processes
  • Assume overall responsibility and accountability for firm-wide operations including revenue and profit goals
  • Attend and participate in ownership meetings/presentations regarding firm performance
  • Direct and monitor project team members and ensure high productivity
  • Develop and implement uniform high production standards and monitor projects to effectively meet the quality and production standards for all design and contract documents

General Management Responsibilities:

  • Advise the Founding Principal on all operational issues
  • Create and maintain an efficient and effective infrastructure based on cost/benefit analysis to support delivery of professional services
  • Responsible for maintaining all relevant policies and procedures
  • Drive relationships with providers of support services, including legal, accounting, banking, and insurance firms. Must be able to leverage these relationships to maintain technical knowledge needed to ensure compliance of tax, audit, legal, IT, payroll and local, state, and national regulations and filing requirements.
  • Develop and implement strategies to assure continuous operations when faced with conflicting priorities, short-term objectives or limited resources


SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to lead and direct activities of all project-team personnel while monitoring technical production for adherence to quality standards at high productivity
  • Executive presence and execution; ability to command respect from and negotiate issues with the firms ownership from a position of expertise in all areas of responsibility
  • Proven success in accommodating fast-paced growth within a business; manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously in a calm manner
  • Ability and desire to lead and manage in a manner compatible with a highly creative and entrepreneurial environment
  • Be highly collaborative and see the big picture and act to benefit the organization
  • Relate in a flexible way to diverse populations, needs, and concerns and interact with diverse individuals equitably
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills with the ability to build positive and impactful working relationships at all levels within the organization


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years of combined practice and operational leadership experience in an exceptional architecture or design firm
  • Experience with Deltek Vision or similar enterprise applications is highly desirable
  • Track record of successful implementation of strategic operational concepts to improve design, project quality, and financial performance
  • Prior experience of building, leading, and coaching a team of operations and design professionals
  • Must have excellent operational and financial management skills with a strong understanding of P/L drivers
  • Recognized as a key advisor to leadership

WORKING DURING COVID

The company is working both remotely and in the studio during COVID-19. As the organization adapts to this unprecedented working situation, the COO will be required to work in the studio an average of two days per week, while supporting operations remotely on other days. This requirement is evolving monthly, depending on current health protocols. Flexibility, creativity, and adaptability will be valued as we look ahead to operational strategies for both remote work and a return to office when the situation permits.
