This job assumes accountability for patient plans of care; provides and manages care to individuals and cohorts of patients within a unit; designs, implements, and evaluates nursing interventions by coordinating, delegating and supervising the care provided by the healthcare team, including licensed nurses, patient care technicians and other health professionals; and facilitates effective and efficient discharge planning. Provides a significant communication link between Unit Director, staff, patients, physicians, and others; serves as a resource to staff for patient care assessment and in the planning and evaluation of nursing interventions; facilitates problem resolution and collaborates with the Unit Director and other charge staff in assessing the quality of care provided, identifying staff strengths and weaknesses and evaluating the staff performance; serves as a liaison between staff and other departments; assumes responsibility for the cost effective and efficient use of human, environmental and material resources. Demonstrates leadership compentency in customer needs and expectations, human resource management, financial outcomes, charge concurrency and reconciliation, data management, strategic vision and planning, marketing initiatives and continuous improvement skills. Responds to internal/external disasters as directed. Demonstrated ability to interact with physicians to ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies. Ensure staff coverage to support 24/7 operations. Efficient management of the Department schedule, documentation, and charging. Utilizing the nursing process effectively in the delivery of patient care. Communicates critical issues to appropriate parties. Effectively manages resources and commits to 24/7 accountability. Flexible schedule in coordination with the director's schedule to ensure day and night visibility with staff. Required: Thorough knowledge of Department patient care and operations. Current knowledge of appropriate clinical practice and knowledge of regulatory agency standards for area of expertise. Demonstrates oral and written comunication skills, strong interpersonal management, critical thinking skills. Capacity to develop strong clinical team working in a learning environment. Ability to work calmly and professionally in intense situations while building rapport with physicians and staff. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Required: Associate degree. Preferred: 5 years specific Department experience, 5 years of supervision/managerial experience. Required: 3 years specific Department experience, 2 years of supervision/managerial experience. Preferred: Advanced specialty certification. Required: Licensed registered nurse in the State of Louisiana, ACLS, & BLS.
