Job Description

Skid Row Housing Trust is in need of an LCSW to join us a we help our unhoused neighbors and provide clinical services to residents. The LCSW will work closely with the residents’ support teams to address concerns related to mental health and/or substance usage to ensure safety, wellness, and housing retention. The LCSW will provide crisis interventions when necessary, observe and monitor behavior when related to the mental health of residents, and conduct individual and group therapy focused on the best possible outcomes. The goal of the LCSW is to provide the most comprehensive mental health services possible, using on and off-site resources, to ensure that residents can keep their housing, even in case of substantial mental illness. Duties and responsibilities of this position require the application of professional skills and possession of extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and theory of medical and psychiatric social work. Training-related duties and responsibilities require the application of training principles to supply supervision for both graduate students and unlicensed clinical staff.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supplies psychotherapy to residents.
  • Aids clients by discussing concerning mental health problems, co-occurring substance abuse disorders, and the need for treatment; develop treatment plans for residents enrolled in therapeutic services.
  • Assesses client's functioning in his/her environmental setting and implements therapeutic intervention to ensure housing retention and safety.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary team conferences to discuss and evaluate the nature of the client's problem, to evaluate the client's progress and to implement on-going case planning.
  • Provide weekly on-site groups focused on healing arts, mental health, support groups, and solution-focused therapy and counseling.
  • Provide ongoing on-site support and bi-weekly clinical supervision for Intensive Case Management Services (ICMS) case managers.
  • When necessary, initiates procedure for 72-hour detention at a hospital facility.
  • Ensure compliance with all social service contracts including the meeting of all outcomes and deliverables.
  • Maintain open lines of communication within the department and across all departments.
  • Maintain proper and professional resident relationships.
  • Listen attentively to resident complaints and suggestions.
  • Address issues fairly and professionally.
  • Conduct interactions with residents, applicants, vendors, and other professionals in a respectful, courteous manner.

 

Additional Duties, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

The position requires knowledge in evidenced-based interventions, experience with implementing Harm Reduction and Housing First principals, and the ability to transfer this knowledge to colleagues.

  • Able to provide crisis intervention using de-escalation tactics Perform comprehensive diagnostic assessments and treatment planning
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues affecting formerly homeless residents with disabilities (severe mental illness, substance abuse, physical disability, and chronic illness including HIV/AIDS).
  • Knowledge of and ability to work effectively in a Harm Reduction environment.
  • Knowledge and experience working with residents to reduce and prevent hoarding.
  • Experience working with veterans is preferred.
  • Coordinate regular meetings and evaluate progress.
  • Prepare and keep exact, up-to-date written client records, statistical information, and reports on a regular basis.
  • Participate in all staff meetings, on-going training, program evaluation, and program development and implementation activities.
  • Initiate and keep effective, cooperative working relationships with community partners, public and private organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field from accredited university.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of case management and issues affecting formerly homeless residents with disabilities (severe mental illness, substance abuse, physical disability, and chronic illness including HIV/AIDS).
  • Knowledge of and ability to work effectively in a Harm Reduction environment. Knowledge and experience working with residents to reduce and prevent hoarding.
  • Experience working with veterans is preferred.

  • Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of government and community aid programs

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • A valid and active license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker issued by the California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Behavioral Sciences.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Company-paid benefit package includes: Two (2) weeks annual vacation accrual, nine (9) paid holidays, ten (10) sick days accrual, float day(s), company-paid health, dental and vision insurance, STD, LTD, and life insurance.
