Job Description

Summary / Objective:

The primary function of the Trucking Dispatcher is to coordinate all trucking needs for Silver Star, as well as material deliveries for CKD, Aggregates, Dry Powder products, Asphalt, etc. for Silver Star and Outside Customers. Coordinate all equipment moves for Silver Star Equipment. Communicate daily with the Trucking Manager and / or Vice President of Operations.

Job Duties / Essential Functions:

  • Immediately report any suspected drug, alcohol, or intoxication to the Safety Director.
  • Reporting any near miss accidents to the Safety Director.
  • This position is identified as a "safety sensitive position" due to working around heavy equipment and street / highway construction projects.
  • Assessing job priorities and assigning employees to appropriate job tasks.
  • Making sure employees have tools and equipment needed for job in order to ensure safety and production.
  • Ensure no drivers exceed 55 hours per week unless approved by the VP of Operations.
  • Reviews truck drivers logs and send violations to The Safety Department
  • Ensure weekly time cards and daily diaries are accurate and turned in on time.
  • Dispatches the company trucks and owner operator trucks.
  • Ensure timely delivery of products.
  • Send out a daily dispatch sheet by 6 pm (XBE), to: Powder Sales Manager, Vice President of Operations, Dispatch Secretary, and the Office Manager for the next day's loads.
  • Takes call in order changes or cancelations at night as needed.
  • Communicate with customers if deliveries are delayed for any reason.
  • Send out a weekly material backlog delivery report.
  • Confirm next day's delivery with via phone call, test or email to customers or job foreman if not confirmed on XBE dispatch digital system.
  • Making sure company rules are followed by all drivers.
  • Hold a daily safety briefing with all drivers and record a record of it in the log for future references.
  • Ensures that all equipment is safe and ready for operation at all times, reports to Vice President of Operations and Equipment Manager on any damage or non-functioning parts and equipment.
  • Ensures that normal servicing of equipment is performed properly and advises and assists as necessary the Field Service Technician.
  • Identify conflicts in dispatch progress and communicate them to project team for resolution.
  • Maintain daily log (written) of activities.
  • Operates motor vehicles and equipment as necessary.
  • Performs labor incidental to the work of operating equipment, other laboring tasks when required.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality at the workplace are required.
  • Processing monthly employee evaluations on all employees under your direct supervision.
  • Making sure company rules are followed by all employees under your direct supervision.
  • Assist direct reports with scheduling leaves and vacation time.
  • Arrives at job site or office at the time specified.
  • Perform quality control duties and responsibilities regarding the work being performed.
  • Ensure that the job site/work areas are always kept in a clean and organized manner.
  • Continually evaluate potential safety situations and confer with the Safety Director on corrective measures.
  • Any employee given the privilege of driving a company pickup home shall keep that vehicle clean at all times. These pickups shall, at a minimum, be washed and cleaned, inside and out, every weekend. No personal use of company vehicles will be allowed, unless previously authorized by Management.

Qualifications:

  • Driving Record - (5 points or less) required.
  • OSHA 10, CPR and First Aid certified a plus. OSHA 30 required within 12 months of starting this position. Training paid for by SSC.
  • Education - High school diploma or GED and equivalent experience. College degree not required.
  • Able to understand and follow instructions
  • Ability to comprehend and use multiple software products such as Microsoft products and dispatch software
  • Ability to supervise workers operating various trucks
  • Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment operated.
  • Ability to verbally communicate effectively with crew, fellow workers, and management
  • Flexibility: Ability to work in a number of diverse locations
  • Good oral and written communication skills - not limited to: cell phone, email, computer, I-pad, etc.
  • Good leadership skills
