Assistant Housekeeping Manager - Sheraton Duluth

The Assistant Housekeeping Manager is responsible managing the overall day-to-day and long term operations of the housekeeping department including the upkeep of all the guestrooms, public spaces, and the outdoor surroundings. Establish and maintain a proven set of processes to assure the hotel is consistently clean taking personal responsibility and pride in both the execution and the results. Provide ongoing training and support for all employees in the housekeeping department. Uses leadership skills to drive revenue, maximize profit and ensure quality. Effective management of assigned staff to ensure achievement of overall financial results, guest satisfaction and positive employee relations.

1. Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Commit to "owning" the cleanliness of every element and aspect of the building with a critical eye for detail
  • Ensure all staff is properly trained and have the supplies and equipment needed to effectively carry out their job functions
  • Directs and works with employees to verify guestrooms, public space and employee areas are clean and well maintained
  • Verifies guest room status is communicated to the Front Desk in a timely and efficient manner
  • Inventories stock to verify adequate supplies
  • Supports and supervises an effective inspection program for all guestrooms and public space
  • Understands the impact of department's operations on the overall financial goals and objectives and manages to achieve or exceed budgeted goals
  • Communicates areas that need attention to staff and follows up to verify understanding
  • Supervises daily Housekeeping shift operations and verifies compliance with all housekeeping policies, standards and procedures
  • Assist with any housekeeping duties when need arise
  • Responds to and handles guest problems and complaints
  • Ensure effective and timely communication to all hotel guests and employees on issues, information and process
  • Participate in departmental and special committee meetings to contribute suggestions and feedback
  • Assigned other duties from General Manager

2. Management

  • Provide follow-up training for employees as necessary
  • Establishes and maintains open, collaborative relationships with employees
  • Schedules employees to business demands and tracks employee time and attendance
  • Supervises staffing levels to verify that guest service, operational needs, and financial objectives are met
  • Observes service behaviors of employees and provides feedback to individuals
  • Participates in employee progressive discipline procedures
  • Participates in the development and implementation of corrective action plans to improve guest satisfaction

3. Customer Focus

  • Works as a team player and interacts with all internal and external customers in a friendly/efficient manner
  • All guests must be treated in a manner to ensure their complete satisfaction
  • Always strive to exceed guest expectations and meet brand standards

4. Accountability

  • Produces required volume of work by planning, organizing, and prioritizing work duties
  • Adheres to Sherman Associates attendance policy, grooming and appearance standards, general work rules, and department procedures
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment, follows all procedures for guests and employee incidents and is knowledgeable for hotel emergency procedures
  • Attends all required department and hotel meetings

Supervisory Responsibility

As applicable, supervises, coaches, directs, trains and evaluates staff; Prepares and conducts employee reviews and completes timecard approvals.

  • High School or equivalent education required
  • Must have a minimum of three years housekeeping experience; ideally with additional inspections and supervisory responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; ability to communicate effectively with community partners, vendors / external parties, and across internal divisions

  • Schedule may vary due to the specific needs of the hotel
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws regarding health and safety services
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to assist with any housekeeping tasks when required
  • Proficient Computer literacy with multiple systems
  • Excellent team leading and management skills
  • Able to handle any situation under pressure
  • Detailed and goal orientated with meeting deadlines
  • Must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites
  • The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud
  • Exposure to/handling of biological substances such as blood, urine, and vomit


  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the hotel on a timely basis
  • Must be able to lift up to 50-lbs. on a regular and continuing basis
  • Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 200-lbs. on a regular and continuing basis
  • Requires frequent kneeling, squatting, grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment
