Job Description

 

Do you love working in an academic environment? Do you love creating learning solutions? If so, we have the job for you! Shaw University is looking for an Educational Technologist. Reporting to the Director of Digital Teaching and Learning, The Educational Technologist analyzes, designs develops, implements, and evaluates processes and tools to make learning easier. This is a grant-funded position.

 What you will do:

  • Analyze software needs and capabilities using best practices.
  • Develop innovative, blended learning solutions for our students, faculty, and staff and implementing and administering the Learning Management System (LMS) and Learning Content Management (LCMS), maintaining on-line tools, integrated products, and providing technical support.
  • Remain current on virtual learning and emerging technologies and methods.
  • Assist in the development and preparation of course materials and online distribution, including the creation of videos uploading and organization of course content in the LMS and production of digital resources.
  • Analyze data for reporting purposes and consult with staff in the development of online course materials including course learning objectives and providing appropriate supporting technologies and expert advice to instructional designers.
  • Identify and act on opportunities to improve digital teaching and learning.
  • Promote digital teaching and learning to the wider university community.

What you bring to the position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Systems, Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Distance Learning/Education, or Multimedia Development required; Master’s preferred, or equivalent combination of education and closely relevant experience field and/or related field.
  • Two (2) years related experience, which includes proficiency with Learning Management Systems, multimedia content, and instructional design. Experience in training/supporting both students and adult learners required.
  • Knowledge of instructional and technical issues in online, hybrid, and video-teleconferencing (VTC) courses.
  • Experience using a wide range of educational technologies, including learning management systems and computer-based testing platforms.
  • Knowledge of the Quality Matters Standards for Higher Education and how to evaluate courses and make recommendations for quality assurance.
  • Ability to produce training materials in a variety of formats using the latest industry tools.
  • Knowledge of modern computing, networking, and communications systems and skill in the use of technology applications.
  • Knowledge of ADA requirements in online course delivery
  • Ability to gather and analyze data from various sources, identify issues/trends, and assist in the development of plans accordingly.
  • Familiarity with copyright and intellectual property standards for course development.
  • Effective communication both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts.
  • Be innovative, strategic, and leverage technology to assist with building, developing, and facilitating a successful medical education program
  • Work cooperatively with others and demonstrates professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others. Capable of interacting pleasantly and positively with others to meet student, faculty, and staff expectations, and provide follow up with customers.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and initiate follow-up action as necessary.  Attention to detail is essential.
  • Knowledge of desktop and portable computer hardware, PC operating systems, peripherals, and adapters.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to audiences with varying levels of technology experience.
