Located in Albuquerque, NM, Bernalillo Academy is a 63 bedsub-acute residential treatment center that serves youth between the ages of 5and 17 with a diagnosis of Autism Disorder, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, Intellectual/DevelopmentalDisabilities and Other Emotional and Behavioral disorders.
We are looking for a Registered Nurse who will provideprofessional nursing care to patients/students by utilizing the nursing processand skills. Assist in implementationdirect daily care of clients. Assistother nurses and the Director of Nursingin providing clinical leadership on the unit as assigned. The Registered Nurse will receive supervisionfrom the Director of Nursing. Thepatient population includes but may not be limited to a specialty group ofspecial needs patients with either cognitive disability, autism spectrumdisorder, developmental delays andbehavioral challenges.
Duties include assessment of patient/students upo0nadmission and throughout admission to Bernalillo Academy utilizingobservational and interviewing skills.
Assist in development of individualized treatment plans in conjunctionwith patient/student, family and multidisciplinary teams. Provide direct nursing care based on patienttreatment plan, maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu and document on allappropriate clients care topics/events/interventions. Evaluate and document thepatient/student/family response to treatment as related to stated goals and theoverall effectiveness of nursing components in the treatment plan whilepromoting the concept and image of professional nursing practice.
Must be able topositively interact and develop rapport with children who are developmentallydelayed/autistic, their families, professional and support staff, and variouslevels of staff from community agencies.
Must be able tomaintain a calm, non-defensive, supportive attitude during crisis or potentialcrisis situations.
Must be able todemonstrate competency in the following areas:
Manualdexterity to keep documentation records.
Able tovisually and auditory monitor clients.
Demonstratetechniques to prevent behavior harmful to the client or others.
Providebehavior management in crisis situations.
Assesspotential crisis situations and call for assistance if needed.
Current Stateof New Mexico residency.
Must havecurrent unrestricted nursing license in the state of New Mexico from The NM Board of Nursing.
Preferredadolescent or children experience in a psychiatric facility, but not required.
Applicant mustbe 21 years of age prior to employment. Applicant must be 21 years of age priorto employment.
