Position Description:

  • Provides high-level technical hardware and software support to users to improve and enhance computer systems to meet specific assigned functional area's business needs.
  • Work includes the testing, evaluation, acquisition, installation and support of hardware, software and communications systems.
  • Updates and maintains computer systems or programs and databases by trouble shooting, problem analysis, and provides advice to improved productivity and better integration of technology into business operations.
  • This classification exists in several assigned functional areas and departments, Citywide.
  • This job classification is not supervisory.
  • The Systems Integrator is distinguished from the Senior Systems Integrator by the expectation that the Senior position must design, operate and maintain large, complex and unique department or division technical environments that would include the administration and support of Microsoft domain infrastructure hardware, software, firewalls, and network environments.


Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

  • Provides the "day-to-day" administration and maintenance of the assigned functional area's one or more software application systems. Provides support required for all functional area related software applications including working with vendors to upgrade systems or training new users on the system.
  • Evaluates and analyzes assigned functional area related processes, procedures and workflow to determine the feasibility of different technology options and solutions to meet their requirements.
  • Performs in system analysis, computer configuration, planning and training of employees on the assigned functional area's automated systems to ensure optimal performance of the systems.
  • Resolves technical and operational problems for users in their assigned functional area.
  • Researches, tests and evaluates software applications and upgrades.
  • Implements the installation and upgrades to the systems.
  • Develops the assigned functional area's web pages utilizing the City's Content Management system. Understands and practices the importance of maintaining the security of sensitive or confidential data.
  • Provides technical support, including budget projections, for the assigned functional area in determining current and future software and hardware needs.
  • Documents technical procedures and related forms to guarantee that knowledge of important technical processes and assigned functional area related application software is passed on to future assigned functional area related Integrators.
  • Serves as a liaison to Information Technology in maintaining inventory of technology and assisting Information Technology software rollouts, hardware replacement and repair and software installations.
  • Works on prioritization, submission and implementation of requests for technology service for the assigned functional area.
  • Develops custom SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports based on customer needs and requirements.
  • Researches and presents to the assigned functional area new software applications and technology solutions based on citywide standards of Information Technology.            


Skills Required:

  • SQL, Laserfiche, SSRS, Power BI,
  • Strong Analytical skills.
  • The assigned functional area's business processes to apply technical solutions.
  • Current Microsoft desktop operating system software to include MS Office 365.
  • Current Microsoft server operating system software and administration tools.
  • Systems' hardware and software and integration and commonly used hardware peripherals.
  • Computer and network safeguards, as well as proper IT security procedures. Solid understanding of computer software and hardware, networks and wireless systems.
  • SQL language and report design.
  • Microsoft Office products and other relevant technologies.
  • Ability to: Utilize programming languages to troubleshoot and revise the software application to meet the specific business needs of the assigned functional area.
  • Listen and communicate effectively with a diverse group of people including users, managers and vendors to address concerns and recommend alternatives.
  • Describe in detail each of the steps needed in the solution of problems and arrange these steps in a logical sequence. Work collaboratively with users, technicians, and IT business partners.
  • Communicate effectively to a wide variety of customers in a clear, concise and non-technical manner using proper sentence construction and grammar. Manipulate and create data tables to troubleshoot problems or enhance data information.
  • Make independent actions or decisions on technical issues.
  • Multitask and prioritize workload and assignments. Work independently and in a team environment.
  • Comprehend and make inferences from written material.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, under the scope of responsibility.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships that foster open communication and collaboration with internal and external customers in the assigned functional area.
  • Mentor other technical staff within the assigned functional area on computer systems, languages and technical knowledge.
  • Complete OSHA/safety training as required. Perform other duties as assigned.            


Experience Required:

  • Two years of experience directly working on computer-based information systems' hardware, software, networks, wireless systems, systems analysis, and integration.  


Education Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution in a related field of study.
  • Two years of experience directly working on computer-based information systems' hardware, software, networks, wireless systems, systems analysis, and integration.
  • An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
