IT System and Database Administrator- REMOTE

SeKON is looking for a System and Database Administrator to join our talented and innovative team supporting the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) located in Monterey, California. Due to COVID-19, this role will be 100% remote for the foreseeable future. The NPS supports the U.S. Navy, other military branches, and foreign military services with postgraduate education for personnel. Additionally, NPS provides significant research capabilities to the Department of Defense (DoD). This position at NPS provides information technology (IT) support to the entire school.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Active DoD Secret Clearance.
• Bachelor's Degree in scientific or technical discipline preferred.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in large-scale, multi-organizational, and dispersed settings
• Strong consulting and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across fast-paced and dynamic teams and at various levels of leadership.
• Experience in all database administration of Oracle, Microsoft SQL, Server, and MySQL, SQL programming and technical documentation.
• Experience with Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure.

• Experience with Git, Microsoft SSIS, Microsoft SSRS, Pentaho Kettle.
• Experience with Nagios or similar enterprise monitoring systems.
• Moderate understanding and experience with T-SQL query development.
• Ability to write automation scripting in Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, PowerShell, Ansible, Puppet or Chef.
• Experience with administration of Cloud Infrastructure provider such as Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure.

• Monitors and improves database performance and capacity of existing enterprise database systems (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL).
• Ensures database systems are safeguarded and implements necessary security measures to ensure data integrity.
• Assists Server Management team with system administration and patching using automation scripts (Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, PowerShell, or Ansible)
• Builds and maintains reports using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Power BI.
• Commits new and modified source code to the NPS Git repository weekly.
• Creates or modifies database objects and/or writes SQL code in support of application developers and functional users as specified in the NPS JIRA issue tracking system.
• Performs data integrations by creating or modifying Extract-Transform-Loads of data.
• Performs fiscal year changeover activities in the financial management system database (i.e., the Kuali Financial System (KFS) database) in October.
• Assists with upgrading KFS database for one new version release.
• Performs database server migrations to replace outdated or underperforming database servers.
• Manages the configuration and automation of cloud infrastructure providers.
• Creates monthly report that provides updates on status, work completed, work in progress, short-term goals, and other relevant project information.
