Instrument Systems Engineer 

 

Description

The Instrument Systems Engineer will be responsible for leading the development of commercial scientific instrumentation. The ISE will be responsible for initiating, directing, and executing scientific research with an emphasis for development of next generation SLIM technology. Supporting the requirements from Business & Product Strategy Teams to develop a commercially viable instrument from concept through development and manufacturing. The engineer will be familiar with the product development lifecycle and have experience working within a Quality Management Systems policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards and practices.

Responsibilities

  1. Scientific Knowledge with regards to Ion Mobility Mass Spectrometery
    • Experience systems engineer with knowledge of ion mobility and mass spectrometry.
    • Initiate, direct, and execute scientific research with an emphasis on developing next generation SLIM technology, trade secrets and intellectual property.
    • Influence the scientific community and market via patents, publications and conference presentations.
    • Working within an interdisciplinary team of engineering, applications development, and operational employees to achieve strategic, operational, and technical objectives.
    • Develop and follow product development process consistent with regulatory and industry standards.
  2. Instrumental Design
    • Strong instrumentation design skills and troubleshooting ability
    • Demonstrated track record of executing a product development plan from rudimentary lab prototype to commercial launch.
    • Lead System level design reviews.
    • Perform risk analysis of instrumentation to identify gaps and recommend engineering and design modifications.
    • Create and document test procedures to ensure instrument performance meets design and performance requirements.
    • Lead system integration effort including required safety, environmental external certification.
    • Provide research project planning and time estimates.
    • Work with manufacturing and service personnel to improve quality, cost, manufacturability, and serviceability of products.
    • Develop and utilize a professional, technical, and scientific network to identify possible manufacturing, technical, and supply chain partners.
    • Working within an interdisciplinary team of engineering, applications development, and operational employees to achieve strategic, operational, and technical objectives.
  3. Quality Management System
    • Strong understanding of instrumentation development in an ISO9001 environment.
    • Adhere to MOBILion’s QMS policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards and practices.
    • Create plans, procedures, protocols, and reports to support product development lifecycle and stage gate review.

Required Skills

  • At least 8-10 years’ experience with scientific instrument product development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, analytical chemistry, chemistry, or physics.
  • Ability to work within the United States.
  • Demonstrated success in developing technical, operational, or manufacturing systems and strategies in the instrumentation market.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of instrumentation development in an ISO9001 environment.
  • Detailed oriented documentation skills.
  • Strong instrumentation design skills and troubleshooting ability.
  • Excellent group interaction and negotiating skills.
  • Proficient programming skills in one or more industry standard programming languages or firmware.
  • Demonstrated track record of executing a product development plan from rudimentary lab prototype to commercial launch.
  • Thorough knowledge of the business and the environment in which the company operates.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks with different priorities.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.

Preferred Skills

  • Mass spectrometry instrument development experience a plus.
  • An advanced degree in engineering, physics, or related disciplines is a plus.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Medical device regulatory and quality control experience a plus.
  • Solid business and strategic acumen.
  • Successful work-related experience in leading cross-functional teams.
