Software Engineer

Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is seeking a full-time Software Engineer to support the Crustal Dynamics Data Information System (CDDIS), managed by the Geodesy and Geophysics Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC).

Responsibilities:

• Process incoming data and derived product files
• Develop new automated software to support the archiving and distribution of new data sets
• Monitor real-time caster streams and add new streams as they become available
• Maintain and verify CDDIS databases using the query language and utilities of the MariaDB database software
• Perform database administration and maintenance tasks as required
• Develop improved metrics collection, processing, and delivery

Required Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree in computer science or a related discipline
• A minimum of 2-years of experience with software development with Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
• Experience working on Unix/Linux platforms
• Proficiency in Python (C, C++, Java also acceptable)
• Experience with version control software such as Git
• Ability to multitask with competing priorities
• Committed to continuous process improvement
• Works well both individually and with teams
• Desire to grow and learn new things

Desired Qualifications:

• Cloud-based service technology and usage
• Basic familiarity with AWS, especially deploying Lambda function
• Experience querying SQL databases Proficiency in SQL
• Experience working with large scientific datasets and a variety of data formats
• Experience in Atlassian scrum ecosystem (Bitbucket, Jira, etc.)
• Strong oral and written communication skills
