Job Description
 

Science Systems and Applications, Inc (SSAI) is seeking an individual to provide management for the Integration and Test (I&T) of a high profile NASA project.

  • Responsible for I&T leadership, planning, and implementation for the aerospace instrument.  This includes development/maintenance of the I&T activity flow and activity schedules, securing adequate facilities for the I&T effort (including clean rooms, test chambers, and related infrastructure), determining I&T staffing requirements and plans, identifying and planning for equipment and tools required, and developing the list of plans and procedures required to execute the I&T effort. 
  • Coordinate with and advise subsystem personnel prior to delivery of subsystems and components to system level I&T. Activities include coordinating delivery of associated equipment and GSE, reviewing subsystem plans and procedures, and schedule coordination. 
  • Prepare for I&T operations, including: laying out and setting up the I&T areas, clean room, and instrument testing areas including Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and contamination controls for these areas; overseeing and assisting with the acquisition, delivery, accommodation, and implementation of various GSE to be used throughout the project’s life.
  • Develop test plans and procedures.
  • Ensure all IT security measures are met based on the project ground system.
  • Provide I&T systems and systems engineering expertise to the project.  This includes assisting with scheduling, planning, and configuration tracking; supporting Failure Review Boards, Manufacturing Review Boards, and other tiger team investigations; reviewing and approving requirements as related to ground systems operations; and providing knowledgeable systems engineering and testing support all  levels testing.
  • Ensures the availability during integration of required support equipment, including tools, test equipment, etc.
  • Support I&T and environmental testing shifts which requires schedule flexibility (nights and weekends) and support of some 24x7 testing.
  • The candidate must be able to work well with others in a team environment. The candidate must have good communications skills and keep the customer and instrument management team informed on project status.
  • The candidate will be required to follow all applicable GSFC documents for compliance with quality and safety directives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree, or equivalent education and/or experience in electrical test and integration of aerospace. 15 years or greater of relevant work experience in aerospace industry with concentration in working with spaceflight hardware will be considered to meet equivalent education requirements.
  • 15 years or more of progressively responsible integration and test experience with at least ten years with spaceflight hardware.
  • Must have an understanding of space flight hardware and electronic systems, experience with space systems environmental testing, and with ground and test systems and software. 
  • Must have experience with integration and test (I&T) of space flight systems, database use in I&T ground systems, and test scripting.
  • Clean room familiarity and training
  • Familiarity with NASA GSFC I&T work flows and experience with Work Order Authorization (WOAs) is desired.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a US citizen with ability to pass a Government background investigation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working on NASA GSFC in-house spacecraft or in-house payload/instrument assembly, integration and test programs is preferred.
  • Experience with cryogenic instruments is strongly preferred.
  • Experience as a product development lead (PDL) or systems engineer on instruments, carrier systems, or spaceflight systems is strongly preferred.
  • Laser/optical communications preferred.
