Job Description

The School District of Onalaska is seeking a strength and conditioning coach at Onalaska High School. A strength and conditioning coach works directly with the head coach of each sport to put together a schedule for strength and conditioning workouts. The strength and conditioning coach can work with an entire team during training sessions as well as with individual athletes. The coach must provide safe, appropriate instruction in the use of weight machines and conditioning equipment and be able to tailor different programs based on the needs of the teams or individual athletes.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

Education and experience equivalent to:

Bachelor's degree or comparable; National Strength and Conditional Association and Collegiate Strength and / or Conditioning Coaches Association certification preferred; previous experience in the areas of strength and conditioning; experience working with middle and high school students.

Knowledge of basic safety, first aid, and training procedures. CPR and First Aid Certified.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • Possess knowledge of strength and conditioning equipment
  • Possess strong interpersonal / human relations skills
  • Demonstrates competent supervisory skills with high school students
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Possess knowledge of School District and WIAA rules and regulations
  • Work successfully with the building administrative team.

JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include any and/or all of the following:

  1. Designs, implements, conducts, and monitors strength and conditioning programs for multiple sport programs and individuals. Supervise and coordinate with coaches.
  2. Supports education for student-athletes about nutrition and healthy decision making.
  3. Facilitates coordination and maintenance of weight room / strength facilities; assists in identifying and purchasing needed strength and conditioning equipment; schedules weight room training for the various athletic programs and individuals.
  4. Promote and communicate activity on a regular basis. (eg. Website, newsletter, meetings, e-mail list, etc.). Provide informational sessions for parents and players and orientation session for high school students within WIAA guidelines.
  5. Adhere to the co-curricular code and other rules of the school.
  6. Communicate regularly with the Activities Director and Administrative Assistant.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned by school administration.
  8. Follow all WIAA and Board of Education policies and model appropriate behavior as per district policies.
  9. Comply with Board Policy #2431 which states: "Co-curricular activities are an extension of the classroom, and as such, coaches and advisors will be held to the same standards as teachers. Accordingly, the use of sarcasm, ridicule, insults, profanity, belittling statements or sustained yelling will not be tolerated in the school or co-curricular environment. Coaches and advisors are expected to develop and expand their skills in sustaining positive student relationships. Violations of this policy will result in disciplinary action."

The Strength and Conditioning coach works an average of 15 hours per week; 40 weeks for all sports seasons and is paid a yearly stipend.
