Job Description

The Certified Kentucky Medication Aide (KMA) is responsible to the Rehab Unit Manager, Charge Nurse/Staff Nurse.   Successful candidate will provide high quality, compassionate care for residents in the Short-Term Rehabilitation Unit at Sayre Healthcare Center on the campus of Sayre Christian Village.  The KMA may be asked to assist in other areas of the Healthcare Center based on staffing needs. Successful candidate will perform according to the facility and nursing department policies and procedures, and state/federal regulations. and its residents for rendering nursing care at Sayre Healthcare Center on the campus of Sayre Christian Village.  Successful candidate will be able to administer medications to residents as ordered by the physician, under the direction/delegation of the Rehab Unit Manager or Charge Nurse.

2nd and 3rd shift available!      


  • Responsible for providing outstanding compassionate care to a group of residents/patients. 
  • Responsible for providing individualized attention, which encourages each resident’s ability to maintain or attain the highest practical physical, mental and psychological well-being.
  • Follow resident care plans and report resident needs to Unit Manager or Charge Nurse. 
  • Administer medications to residents within scope. 
  • Maintain accountability for controlled substances; inventory medications and at the beginning and end of each shift, immediately notifying supervisor of discrepancies.
  • Communicate resident status to incoming personnel according to Sayre Christian Village policies and procedures.
  • Attending to the individual needs of residents which may include assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, communicating, or other needs in keeping with the individual’s care requirements.
  • Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident in the delivery of services to them.  Interact with residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a compassionate, caring environment. 
  • Observe residents for changes in condition or behavior and promptly report these changes to appropriate licensed nursing personnel.
  • Perform all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures including thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves where indicated, and proper disposal of soiled materials.
  • Lift, move and transport residents, using proper body mechanics or lifting devices for accident prevention.
  • Complete records and perform computerized charting that documents care provided or other information in keeping with departmental policies.
  • Respond to inquiries relating to his/her particular area or to requests from residents, visitors, other personnel, etc. within given time frames and within established policy.
  • Comply with facility HIPAA Security Policies & Procedures by using only protected health information (PHI) needed to perform designated job responsibilities which include access to information contained in a patient’s records (other than information that has been restricted by the patient’s physician) for the purpose of treating the patient, including consulting with other professionals concerning the patient’s treatment.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Knowledge and understanding of accident protocol.
  • Must possess verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with residents and families.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with residents and Nursing Home employees as needed.
  • Must be able to work a varied schedule to include weekends, evenings and overnight.
  • Must obtain a thorough knowledge of residents’ rooms, files and medical supplies.
  • Must obtain medical knowledge to ensure proper care is given to all residents.


  • 2-3 years of experience in the area of Short-Term Rehabilitation or Orthopedics preferred
  • 2-3 years of experience in areas including but not limited to Skilled Nursing Facility or Dementia Care
  • Kentucky Medication Aide Certification. 
  • Current Kentucky State Registered Nurse Aide Certification – to maintain throughout the duration of employment in the position.
  • High School diploma or equivalent. 


  • Frequently communicates with employees, residents, family members, physicians etc. 
  • Occasionally lifts objects weight up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently remains in a standing position.
  • Frequently stoops, kneels, or bends when assisting residents and coworkers with resident needs.
  • Must be able to use all body limbs up to 100 percent capacity.
  • Ability to work in either well-lit or dimly-lit, tempered room.
