About Our Organization:
Sasha Bruce Youthwork is one of the largest and most experienced providers of services to youth in Washington, DC. Our mission is to improve the lives of runaway, homeless, abused, neglected, and/or at-risk youth and their families in the Washington, DC area. We achieve this by providing shelter, counseling, life skills training, and positive youth development activities to approximately 1,500 youth and 5,000 family members each year. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
This key management role leads and directs client case management/record keeping system and required documentation including assigning cases to Case Managers, following up with case management staff about client treatment, service, and discharge goals
- Assume a leadership role in the absence of or at the direction of Program Manager, including directing staff duties and/or during crises, to create calm therapeutic solutions.
- Provide coverage/managerial responsibilities in the absence of Program Manager.
- Assists in planning, establishing, implementing policies and procedures.
- Participate in regular supervision with program manager/clinical director.
- Provide a safe, healthy environment for all residents, and provides a positive role model for residents in areas of communication, decision making and problem-solving.
- Under the direction of the Program Manager, review client profiles to determine appropriateness for admission to or discharge from Bruce House.
- Collaborate with Case Managers and Program Managers on assessments and develops action plans for each resident.
- Review case files documentation in HMIS and other electronic case management systems for accuracy and thoroughness.
- Review log book, Safe Place Hotline, and case management records to ensure required and accurate documentation.
- Assist with client referrals and client intake interviews.
- Complete the introductory packets for new residents ensuring all documents are completed.
- Provide treatment and behavioral goals for residents and work with them to attain goals.
- Provide crisis intervention, ongoing assessments and on-site counseling.
- Provide direct services to assigned case load including individual, family and group counseling, educational and legal advocacy, employment and life skills development, referrals, crisis intervention, etc.
- Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings and other meetings/activities identified by the program manager.
- Provide appropriate referrals; attend court and administrative reviews; provide individual and group counseling.
- Oversee the reporting, planning and implementation of activity schedules.
- Make regular house check inspections inside the building and in the area immediately outside, and checks individual rooms when necessary.
- Oversee and maintains all necessary records, including but not limited to legible, comprehensive and accurate reports of house activities in the house log.
- Carry out emergency fire evacuation, and emergency procedures in case of an illness or accident.
- Provide office coverage, answer and record all phone calls and visitors, enforce house rules and ensure house safety.
- Promptly report any inconsistencies, conflicts or problematic situations which arise to the Program Manager.
- Coordinate involvement of other agencies and/or personnel involved with the youth.
- Participate in at least 40 hours of training provided or recommended by the Agency yearly.
- Updates annual safety sensitive background checks.
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field, Master’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ clinical counseling and/or case management experience, preferably working with adolescents/young adults.
- Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and inclination to initiative.
- Must be able to work Monday - Friday, 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm plus one “in-office” weekend day (Saturday) per month and rotating weekends on-call.
- Must carry or be able to obtain required certifications.
- Must have a current, valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- Requires ability to participate in physical work, lifting and moving.
- Requires ability to perform tasks involving bending and climbing stairs and ladders.
- Requires ability to work outside in rain, heat and cold as needed.
- Requires ability to speak audibly and listen actively.
- Requires ability to use computers, telephones and other office equipment.
- May require ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- May require periodic weekend and evening work.
