HVAC Mechanic

Under the direction of the HVAC Supervisor, the HVAC Mechanic is responsible for performing a variety of standard to moderately complex technical tasks related to installing, maintaining and repairing heating, cooling, ventilations and related systems

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in promoting brand loyalty by engaging in exceptional customer service to both our external and internal customers.
  • Adjusts valves to regulate temperature of lubrication oil and flow of water through system.
  • Moves controls to regulate speed of fans and to adjust vents and ducts.
  • Records gauge readings, repairs completed, and time lost because of inoperative equipment.
  • Writes repair work order tickets and out of order tags preparatory to equipment repair.
  • Inspects equipment to detect excessive noise and heat.
  • Replaces gauges and tightens and caulks leaky fittings.
  • Cleans carbon deposits, pitch, and grease from fans, vents, and ducts.
  • Maintains and services all air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, and ventilation units including exhaust fans.
  • Replaces motors, belts, bearings, electrical components such as circuit boards, contractors, modules, defrost time, fuses, capacitors, thermostats, etc.
  • Greases motors and bearings.
  • Troubleshoots systems including Freon checks with manifold and gages.
  • Replaces and/or washes all types of filters (pleated, foam, carbon, etc.).
  • Cleans all evaporative and condenser coils.
  • Maintains drinking fountains, ice machines, and water filters.
  • Monitors and performs preventative maintenance on the Photocatalytic Oxidation systems (PCO). This includes the cleaning of the
  • honeycomb filters and changing of the UV bulbs.
  • Completes work orders as assigned.
  • Orders and stocks parts and supplies necessary to perform all duties.
  • Performs roof maintenance during rainy season.
  • Cleans and maintains all work areas. (Chiller room, boiler room, etc.)
  • Collaborates with departments, vendors, general contractors, and sub-contractors when completing projects and tasks.
  • Notifies management of any conditions requiring immediate attention.
  • Completes computer log sheets for all central plants. (Cultural, Center, Casino)
  • Inspects and maintains boiler for kitchens and comfort heaters.
  • Cleans and maintains swamp coolers for kitchen make-up units.
  • Maintains schedules for change-out of filters and belts, greasing, and major maintenance.
  • Maintains cooling towers, water pumps, and other related equipment.Monitors cooling towers as needed.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on all related equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs or changes out Tribal Irrigation Systems.
  • Cleans all ductwork as needed.
  • Works with other trades to complete projects and tasks.
  • Sets-up and maintains logs and/or journals on all equipment.
  • Ability to use all necessary tools and equipment required to complete all duties and job. Must have possession of own tools.
  • Keeps all tools and equipment in assigned areas; cleans and cares for all tools and equipment.
  • Keeps all chemicals in assigned areas with proper labels (SDS).
  • Operates hand held power equipment and tools.
  • Notifies supervisor of conditions requiring immediate attention.
  • Keeps stock of cleaning materials and equipment needed to do the work; informs the supervisor when more materials are needed or when
  • equipment is in need of repair or replacement.
  • Work efficiently in a fast paced, high demand environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Some college or trade school accredited coursework or apprenticeship in related field preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and understand blue prints, as-builts, and schematics.
  • Knowledge of emergency shut-off procedures for gas, water electrical, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of computers required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Lt. preferred.
  • Ability to use all necessary tools and equipment required to complete all duties and job.
  • Must have possession of own tools.
  • Knowledge of power and hand tools; emergency shut-off procedures for gas, water, electrical, etc.; pumping stations; centrifugal, rotary, and impeller pumps; domestic and irrigation water systems including an understanding of fluid motion, pumps, motors, well and holding ponds. 
  • Familiar with ASHRAE standards.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company's insurance carrier.
  • HVAC/R Mechanic Certificate required.

The physical demands and working environment described here are representative of those that an employee encounters and must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences.  Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts.
  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and electricity.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places; outside weather conditions and vibration. 
  • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles including secondhand smoke.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, high demand environment.
  • Work requires intermittent sitting, standing and/or stooping as well as bending, crouching or stooping.
  • Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person and over the telephone.
  • Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in person, in front of groups, in meetings, and over the telephone.
  • Strength sufficient to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds below or at waist level and occasionally lift , move or carry objects up to 100 pounds below and at waist level with assistance
  • Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office, gaming and warehouse environment, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, and enter, exit and operate a motor vehicle in the course of travel to promotional events, meetings, conferences, trade shows  and San Manuel properties.
  • Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned, or to make general observations of facilities, guests and employees.  Use close, distance, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Physical activities that apply to the essential functions of the position are: balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places; outside weather conditions and vibration. 
  • Protective devices are required as needed.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles including secondhand smoke.
