The nonprofit San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living serves a significant number of patients and long-term care/skilled-nursing residents each year in its Jewish Home & Rehab Center. Non-residential care is offered through our short-term and rehabilitation services unit for patients who require specialized interdisciplinary rehabilitation to recover from surgery or an acute illness, and through our acute geriatric psychiatry hospital. With a complement of close to 650 compassionate, experienced clinical and allied health personnel, SFCJL provides older adults with a variety of life-enriching healthcare programs and services in a welcoming, stimulating environment.

SFCJL’s transformed campus includes the new Lynne & Roy M. Frank Residences (assisted living apartments and memory care & support assisted living suites), and Byer Square, a non-residential community of programs, services, and support.

Position Overview:

This role is responsible for evaluating and implementing the Jewish Home & Rehab Center's Education Program in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of the Home, federal and state laws and regulations, and accreditation standards.

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinates all required education programs as well as growing the JHRC educational programs to meet future community needs.
  • Ensures that employees receive compliance training and education necessary to perform their job responsibilities in accordance with the Jewish Home policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that documentation for all training is completed in accordance with state and federal requirements.
  • Consults with appropriate staff and managers regarding clinical and individual department concerns to ensure that issues are identified and assessed timely; that appropriate action is taken.
  • Creates collaborative action plans related to identified quality issues, assuring continued and sustained progress and compliance.
  • Conducts an orientation program for new, rehired, and contract employees.
  • Provides hands-on clinical orientation and instruction to licensed and unlicensed personnel.

  • Conducts or coordinates new employee training.
  • Assesses resident needs in relation to staff abilities and designs appropriate training programs.
  • Identifies learning needs related to Quality Improvement Program and regulatory requirements and collaborates with key Departmental Managers for the education/training of staff.
  • Works closely with the Director of Nursing & Clinical Operations (DNCO) to ensure clinical competency of nursing staff through observed skills evaluation, and conducts annual competency assessments for licensed nursing staff and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).
  • Conducts state and federally required in-service programs.
  • Conducts training programs for Certified Nursing Assistants.
  • Ensures the educational curriculum at JHRC meets or exceeds state, federal and accreditation requirements.
  • Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the JHRC Code of Business Conduct, its policies and procedures, the Corporate Compliance Agreement, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable professional standards.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.


  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN degree preferred.
  • Licensed as RN or LVN in the state of California
  • Valid CPR certification
  • Nurse Educator or Staff Development certification preferred
  • Knowledgeable in adult learning theories and able to apply
  • Current with California Continuing Education (CE) requirements.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in nursing preferred
  • Three years in a long-term care environment preferred
  • One-year experience as teacher/clinical instructor preferred
  • Knowledge of learning principles/training techniques, patient safety, risk management, survey process, infection control, preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clinical staff, and all levels of the organization
  • Computer proficient
