Attire -The Society has a very conservative grooming policy. Tattoos may not be visible or must be appropriately covered while on duty. Jewelry may be worn if it does not detract from a well-groomed look or create a safety hazard. Server applicants must be at least 18 years of age and preferably have at least one year of full service or fine dining restaurant experience. Essential functions for these positions include providing excellent guest service, taking food orders from restaurant guests, serving food and beverages in an efficient and timely manner, keeping assigned tables and areas clean and orderly and performing related work as required. Applicants must be available to work on weekends and holidays, including nights, with preference given to fully open availability. Outgoing, friendly and courteous candidates with outstanding guest service skills required. Ability to multi-task constantly changing priorities and easily initiate conversation with a diverse group of people is necessary. Extensive knowledge of alcoholic beverages (beer, wine cocktails) is ideal. Chosen applicants will also be scheduled to work in other capacities including catering, quick service restaurants and/or merchandise shops as needed.

The Food Server performs all job assignments with a positive attitude that reflects San Diego Zoo Global's mission and vision of saving species worldwide by uniting our expertise in animal care and conservation science with our dedication to inspiring passion for nature and leading the fight against extinction. The Food Server under general supervision performs a variety of moderately difficult duties in greeting and taking orders from restaurant guests, serving guests, keeping assigned tables and areas clean and orderly. This position reports to the Lead Food Server, Manager and Supervisor.
Positions in this class are assigned to a restaurant which provides guests with table service; takes customers' orders and provides service; assist all other front-of-the house employees to create a congenial and efficient facility that is attractive to guests.
+ Welcomes and greets guests
+ Takes and serves food and beverages orders tableside
+ Prepares certain menu items including salads, appetizers and desserts
+ Advises customers' regarding menu items
+ Make Customer Service a top priority
+ Politely and professionally answers guests' questions regarding the Zoo or Safari Park
+ Professionally handle difficult situations with employees and guests
+ Keeps assigned areas clean, orderly and in a safe condition
+ Assists new personnel as needed
+ Assists (Lead, Cooks, Manager and Supervisor) as needed
+ Assists with special events when needed
+ Compliance with the SDZ Global and Health Departments uniform standards
+ Maintains a passing grade on the County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health Food Handlers exams
+ Maintains a passing grade on the Environmental Health Department tests
+ Adheres to Organization and Departments safety guidelines
+ Practices the GRRREAT Customer Service Standards
+ Pre-buses tables
+ Stocks supplies and sets up tables for special events Makes beverages, including coffee, iced tea and specialty coffee drinks
+ Maintains a clean and safe work environment
+ Works effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision
+ Assists with period end inventory as needed
+ Communicates with management staff on a daily basis
+ Adheres to the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health standards
+ Maintains inventory and stock rotation
+ Adheres to cash handling procedures and operates the cash register accurately
+ Adheres to sanitation and safety practices.
+ Supports peers and Lead Food Server as needed
+ Helps to create a cohesive, friendly and productive work environment
+ Assists with Catered events when needed
ANCILLARY FUNCTIONSPerforms related duties and responsibilities as required.QUALIFICATIONSEducation, training and/or experience which would clearly demonstrate the essential functions, knowledge and skills listed. An example would be one or more years of Food Server experience working in a fine dining restaurant; must be at least 18 years of age.Knowledge of:

WORKING ENVIRONMENTExposure to environmental conditions found where food is being cooked in large quantities for long periods of time; exposure to hot plates, platters and warmers;work on slippery surfaces;may have exposure to varying weather conditions and slippery surfaces.
Move easily and safely throughout assigned area; frequently required to move and lift moderate to heavy objects up to 40 pounds; standing for long periods of time, bending, reaching and twisting.
