As Logistics Legal Counsel, you will be a part of Legal & Compliance team, and provide accurate, relevant, and timely legal support to various business stakeholders of the company's Smart Logistics (SL) business. This position will draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts in the context of supply chain and logistics services. This position will also manage and mitigate legal risks by ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations that apply to the business, and promote legal, compliance, and risk management best practice throughout the company. Qualified candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills, liaising with any third-party bodies (such as outside counsel, auditors, insurance brokers/carriers etc.) as well as reporting to senior members and company's executives.

Responsibilities:

+ Contract drafting, review, and negotiation

+ Provide accurate, relevant, and timely legal counsel on a range of legal and/or compliance issues

+ Stay up-to-date with changes to legislation, particularly in relation to laws, rules and regulations that directly affect SL business, such as Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), as well as California Privacy laws and regulations; and advise SL business accordingly in oral and written form

+ Assist internal stakeholder with contract negotiation and RFP responses

+ Analyze legal issues, make timely decisions based on logical assumptions using all available information, and recommend best course of action from the both legal and commercial standpoint

+ Communicate with and manage any third-party bodies such as outside counsel, auditors, insurance brokers/carriers, etc.

+ Work across time zones and cultures with a cross-functional group of stakeholders

+ Support handling various claims and drafting demand letter

+ Design and deliver legal training to the business

+ Assist HR with EEOC/Workers' Comp/unemployment claims, policy updates, etc.

+ Assist with ad-hoc projects as requested, including corporate governance, joint venture, employment matters, and litigation/alternative dispute resolutions

+ Perform other duties as assigned or needed

Requirements

+ J.D. from ABA-accredited law school required

+ Admitted to practice law in California, active member in good standing

+ At least three (3) years of legal practices at a law firm and/or corporate law department required

+ Working knowledge of FMC rules and regulations, OSRA 2022 (particularly relating to demurrage/detention), inbound/outbound transportation and warehouse management, as well as logistics in general

+ High energy to work in a fast-paced environment, maintain a sense of urgency, and perform with a clear head under pressure

+ Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills; generate all required written reports to leadership

+ Demonstrate a business-friendly approach to legal problem solving and able to provide practical advice as well as creative solutions

+ Ability to work independently and be resourceful

+ Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal research tools (Westlaw, Practical law); and ability to conduct Internet research and learn to use internal contract management tools (Cello)

+ Ability to solve problem effectively and efficiently

+ Ability to multitask and possess exceptional attention to detail

+ Ability to travel up to 20%

+ Bilingual English/Korean preferred

+ The position requires the ability to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms

+ The position requires dexterity to write and use computer keyboard and mouse

+ The position requires multitasking and solving complex issues in a fast-paced environment

+ This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products, materials and supplies, up to 20 pounds
