Under the direction of the Mental Health Director, the Child and Youth Clinic Coordinator will oversees project and grant activities for the Akwesasne Youth Suicide Prevention project, provide clinical and administrative supervision of staff providing mental health services to children and youth, and work with MH Director to assist in operations and oversee clinic based and satellite MH Outpatient clinics.

The purpose of the Akwesasne Youth Suicide Prevention Grant is to provide direct behavioral health supports to Akwesahsr?:non ages 24 and younger. The primary role will be to ensure that the vision and goals of the Akwesasne Youth Suicide Prevention project are maintained throughout the project life cycle through oversight, and participation in planning. Develop relationships with key partners and provide screening, education, and attend meetings with project partners and supervise project staff in providing screening, referral, treatment and care coordination for youth. Project Director will work with project staff and ensure reporting of data to funding source.

The Child and Youth Clinic Coordinator will work within guidelines of the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration and Indian Health Services as well as Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Mental Health Services and New York State Office of Mental Health standards of care, policies and procedures and, internal control standards and objectives by performing the following duties:


+ Exhibit a friendly, respectful and courteous manner when dealing with clients, fellow employees and associates.

+ Maintain confidentiality according to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

+ Work as project director and Clinic Coordinator of the Child and Youth Mental Health Services to carry out the goals and objectives of expanding behavioral health services for Akwesasne youth ages 24 and younger.

+ Provide clinical and administrative supervision to therapists, care coordinator and administrative assistant.

+ Maintain and review client records and other required reports.

+ Provide some limited direct clinical services on as needed basis.

+ Establish collaborative working relationships and coordinate service delivery with other youth serving agencies, including schools and institutes of higher learning.

+ Coordinate and implement educational activities to provide to the community.

+ Facilitate focus groups and community talking circles/meetings when needed.

+ Outreach and Screening: Oversee and provide mental health information and screenings at Head Start, local schools, local colleges, Akwesasne Girls and Boys Club, and community events.

+ Work with Mental Health team to promoting outreach and engagement of youth and their families into services.

+ Participate and assist with grant activities, planning meetings and evaluation, attending webinars and trainings, including travel to grantee meetings, if necessary.

+ Attending community events as a representative of Mental Health and Akwesasne Youth Suicide Prevention program.

+ Attend the Akwesasne Suicide Prevention Committee and other meetings regarding youth.

+ Work with Mental Health Director to ensure clinics operations and NYSOMH standards of care are met.

+ Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide clinical and administrative supervision to child and youth mental health therapists, Child/Youth Mental Health Care Coordinator and administrative assistant and provide overall leadership when MH Director is not in the office.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Master degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling field with New York State Licensure, a LCSW is preferred. Experience working with children, youth and their families in behavioral health. Experience providing clinical and administrative supervision.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Strong oral and written communication skills required. Must have good computer skills including, Word, and ability to navigate various scheduling and electronic health record programs. Openness in working with traditional/spiritual approaches regarding behavioral health issues. Ability to do presentations, represent the mental health program and connect with people. Familiarity with Akwesasne Community. Interest in obtaining additional training/education in suicide prevention, intervention and postvention. Motivated, caring and compassionate, committed to suicide and substance use prevention, reducing impact of stigma and increasing help seeking behavior.

REASONING ABILITY: Maturity and ability to handle delicate role issues and to respond to crisis.
