Manufacturing Engineer

Position Summary:CertainTeed Ceiling's is looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to be a resource for their Norcross, GA location for process, continuous improvement/cost reduction, and new product development support. The Manufacturing Engineer will ensure long term reliability of plant processes; that engineering activities are designed to ensure equipment and processes are properly optimized. This position will also analyze process failures to develop actions to preclude reoccurrence and lead the development/implementation of these projects. The Manufacturing Engineer supports multiple projects, including capital projects involving primary processing equipment, material handling, automation, and primary/ancillary process equipment.
Responsibilities:

+ Support maintenance and production personnel in resolving process and product variation, equipment problems and variation using systematic methods of troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventative action. Participate in or lead root cause failure analysis, report findings, along with recommended remedies.
+ Designing or developing new processes and revising / maintaining of existing processes; developing and implementing WCM/Lean projects; managing and guiding contractors, consultants and suppliers; identifying new opportunities and solutions with cost / benefit analysis and making recommendations to improve efficiencies.
+ Identification and eliminating waste throughout the process through the use of Lean, 6 Sigma, and WCM tools and methodologies.
+ Aid in the New Product Development Process.
+ Project Engineering and Management responsivities, including managing equipment and labor costs within project budget, adhering to timelines, and delivering quality.
+ Planning and scheduling of projects and preparing capital expenditures.
+ Interacts with managers and supervisors at plant and corporate personnel to secure appropriate resources to plan and implement projects.
+ Collaborates with the Production and Maintenance to coordinate changes in the production process and resolve equipment malfunctions.
+ Leads and participates in Focus Improvement teams to resolve critical process and production problems with customers and vendors.
+ Provides technical expertise, support and enhancement of mechanical related systems.
+ Ensures CertainTeed Ceilings standards of safety, quality and reliability are built into manufacturing systems.
+ Assists maintenance team with any difficult troubleshooting issues.
+ Uses advanced tools / techniques to reduce process variations and downtime. Identifies and resolves special cause variation in the process. Analyzes operating problems, develops solutions and leads the implementation of corrective actions.
+ Collects, interprets and extrapolates data from the production process to monitor current equipment performance against established baselines and applies appropriate corrective actions.
+ Develops and maintains standard operating procedures, work instructions, and other documentation.
+ Ensures full documentation and dissemination of all assigned projects and systems.
+ Prepares and maintains necessary process and project documentation.
+ Provides training, coaching, and mentoring of various personnel.
+ Assures good housekeeping practices following 5S systems, enforces plant rules and safety regulations, and supports Safety/WCM/Lean initiatives.
+ Continuously evaluates workplace for safety concerns and ensures behavioral safety initiatives are performed to goal levels.

+ BS in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering required; or equivalent experience. Other engineering degrees considered with relevant experience, demonstrated accomplishment, capability.
+ Five to ten years of applied professional experience with manufacturing systems such as metal stamping, forming, wood working, material handling systems.
+ Five to ten years in a high mix, high volume or custom shop environment.
+ Working knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma, Yellow or Black Belt in Lean/6 Sigma
+ Flexible, open-minded team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Excellent interpersonal and problem solving capabilities to work effectively in corporate, manufacturing and team environments.
+ Ability to provide leadership and innovation at all levels of the organization.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.
+ Frequent travel, up to 50% is required.
