About Fargo Vocational Training Center

Incorporated in 1961, the Vocational Training Center (VTC) has been the area's non-profit leader in delivering strength-based and solution-driven vocational and employment services for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to independence. Through the years, VTC has evolved into an eclectic blend of private and public in that they are a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization and an accomplished business listed with Dunn and Bradstreet.

Now, 60 years later, VTC still remains true to the philosophy that individuals with disabilities are incredible assets to any work environment and that they have valuable contributions to make to our community. This philosophy is apparent in its business practices, which are key attributes to the overall success of the organization.

The organization currently employs over 140 employees providing support to approximately 200 individuals throughout the multiple programs and locations in the Fargo/Moorhead/West Fargo area. The current annual operating budget is approximately $8 million dollars.

The Vocational Training Center is seeking an experienced Finance Director who will be responsible to ensure sound financial planning and management so VTC has the resources necessary to fulfill its mission. The next Finance Director will have the relevant experience and talent to effectively carry out the key accountabilities of the position including:


Budgeting and Financial Planning

Facilitate a streamlined process to co-create and achieve a budget that is aligned with the strategic plan and increases the health of the organization.

Financial Reporting

Provide timely, accurate, relevant, and useful financial reports to help leadership make wise decisions and maintain transparency with the Board of Directors.

Investment Oversight

Work with the investment partner to support the Finance Committee and Board of Directors by providing the timely, accurate, relevant, and useful information they need to make wise investment decisions within the guidelines of the investment strategy.

Risk Management and Compliance

Ensure compliance with all relevant internal and external policies and procedures. Oversee risk management to minimize avoidable and uncovered losses, and maintain financial controls to ensure accurate and timely accounts payables and receivables.

Performance Monitoring and Business Intelligence

Assess and assure an accurate performance monitoring and business intelligence system to help decision-makers understand the current performance, health, and impact of the organization.

Relationship Management and Internal Advisory

Maintain strong relationships with team members, stakeholders, and partners and serve as a trusted advisor for team leaders to help drive fiscal responsibility and success across departments and programs.

Team Leadership

Provide leadership, coaching, and support to create engagement, retention, and team member growth.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • CPA or MBA preferred but not required
  • Knowledge and understanding of Non-profit Organizations preferred
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of people internally and externally
  • Effective, diplomatic, and clear communication style
  • Collaborative and supportive leadership style
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills

The Search:
