Prevention Services Specialist-Therapist

Summary:  Provides activities and services with a focus on community based primary prevention intervention and treatment strategies

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • The primary duties will include; traveling therapy for both youth and adults at various school locations in Everman ISD.
  • This position will provide both individual and group counseling for victims or those exposed to Domestic Violence.
  • Counseling services will be provided with a trauma-informed care framework.
  • Counseling services will be available for both the victims and their non-offending family members.
  • Maintains accurate reports of daily activities and completes reports required by the agency and its funders.
  • Contacts and networks with other Everman, Texas community organizations to promote domestic violence prevention opportunities.
  • Additionally, the Everman Student Assistance Prevention and Intervention Counselor will provide activities and services with a focus on community based primary prevention strategies.
  • Provides information regarding current methods and developments in the prevention/intervention field; risk factors, signs and effects of violence on youth, and protective factors.
  • Prepares and presents teacher and parent trainings within the Everman community.
  • Prepare and presents universal classroom based prevention programs to children and adolescents focusing on various violence prevention/intervention curriculum.
  • This position works closely with Everman Student Assistance Coordinator.
  • Works closely with and serves as liaison (along with Everman Studeant Assistance Coordinator) with schools, churches, social organizations and social service agencies, to raise awareness and provide domestic violence prevention services in Everman, Texas.
  • This position is responsible for scheduling youth therapy and classroom based prevention education programs.
  • Public speaking experience required. 
  • Experience in youth and child therapy and community outreach strongly preferred. 
  • Experience in and knowledge of family violence theory or primary prevention strategies preferred.  Must have excellent written and oral skills. 
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to drive during day and night time hours.
  • Must have current Texas driver's license and have proof of automobile liability insurance

  • Flexible hours are required. Some evening and weekend work will be required

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree in Social Work or closely related field.  Public speaking experience required.  Experience in youth and child education, counseling or community outreach strongly preferred.  Experience in and knowledge of family violence theory preferred.  Must have excellent written and oral skills.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

Must have excellent written and oral skills. Public speaking experience required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as assessments and professional journals.  Ability to write reports, correspondence and appropriate case notes.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to understand and analyze statistical data.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Current Texas Driver's License required.  Must provide proof of auto liability insurance.
