Fredonia's University Student Health Center seeks qualified candidates for a per diem, Registered Nurse 1 position to work on an as needed basis. Working in a team-oriented environment and utilizing a working knowledge and understanding of SUNY and campus policies and procedures, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing direct patient care including physical assessments, review of history, obtaining of vital signs, and providing appropriate follow-up and referral in accordance with the mission, vision, core values, and strategic plan of the Student Health Center while maintaining strict adherence to confidentiality, state laws, rules and regulations of the New York State Office of the Professions, and departmental policies and procedures. The Registered Nurse works in collaboration with the Director, Nurse Practitioners/College Physician and other Health and Counseling staff.
Reporting to the Director of Student Health, the successful candidate will:
+ Direct nursing care to patients, including follow up, and family communication as necessary.
+ Provides an excellent learning environment for Fredonia student interns and other trainees.
+ Management of clinic inventory.
+ Ongoing evaluation of the schedule and clinic flow; communications patient needs with providers.
+ Triage - assessment of a student's presenting complaint by thorough history taking, vital signs, appropriate lab tests, and system's assessment.
+ Documentation - uses the Electronic Medical Record to facilitate accurate and complete medical records.
+ Treatment - provides necessary clinical treatment per clinical protocol and standing orders.
+ Referral System - makes appropriate referrals to the onsite provider, Counseling Center, campus community or areas health care agencies.
+ Safe work environment - maintains a safe work environment using universal precautions.
+ Health Promotion - teaches and advises student on health and wellness issues. Participates in outreach programming activities sponsored by the Student Health Center as well as other campus departments.
+ Continuing Education - complies with annual mandatory in-services. Remains current with nursing practice information through professional development by attending educational programs, reading professional journals, etc.
+ Laboratory - Follows regulations and guidelines in maintaining quality laboratory services.
+ Evaluates the needs and costs of equipment/supplies, consults with the Director of the Student Health Center in ordering equipment/supplies for the Student Health Center and special programs.
+ Participates in the entire office operation with direct patient care as the core of the responsibilities. When necessary and/or patient volume is low, recognizes the need to provide backup for front desk staff. Works as part of the Health Center team, which may require some ancillary "non-nursing" tasks i.e. assist support staff with immunization entry and phone calls etc.
+ Participates in outreach and health promotion activities.
+ Participates in other committee work as needed.
+ Works collaboratively with Health, Counseling and Prevention Services staff, Residential Life and other College departments.
+ Responsible for Open Houses, Resource Fairs and Orientation Programs as the representative for the Student Health Center. This may include an occasional Saturday.
+ As a professional staff member in the Student Health enter, the Registered Nurse is expected to fulfill the specific responsibilities in a way that demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to the articulated mission and goals of the Student Health Center. The Registered Nurse is also expected to adhere to the legal and ethical standards of New York State and the nursing profession.
+ Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.
+ Current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
+ Experience in College Health.
