SUM is now receiving applications for the position of Video Producer. The successful candidate will join a transformational team of leaders and trustees in implementing the aggressive and visionary goals of its recently completed ten-year strategic plan, Decade of Dreams. Summary

In 2019 SUM took the bold step to launch the Broadcasting Network of Theological Studies (BNTS). This initiative involved designing a new online learning pedagogy that is aligned with the school’s mission to impact global theological education and oriented toward the public broadcasting format through the creative use of digital media technology. This calls for creative planning, production, finishing, and widespread distribution of highly engaging, learner-oriented instructional videos geared for a variety of audiences (degree-based, non-degree-based) on multiple online/broadcast platforms. Such video learning content, developed through this novel pedagogy and creative collaboration among our global faculty, technology, and production teams, will be key to SUM’s mission in empowering the church worldwide by raising Christian leaders for the preaching of the Gospel around the world.

We are looking for a highly motivated, committed, exceptional, and seasoned professional, who will lead the SUM production crew and manage all SUM’s video projects end-to-end, including pre-production, production, and post-production. The Video Producer is responsible for the creation of high-quality multimedia (audio/video) content for degree- and non-degree-based courses, student testimonials, organizational announcements, promotions and marketing, recruitment, and other institution-wide projects on a global scale.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Work under the supervision of the BNTS director and collaborate with all SUM departments for effective video production
  • Manage day-to-day studio operations, calendar, production equipment and software, and the video library
  • Provide leadership, oversight, and inspiration to the production crew that includes student workers
  • Plan and conduct training workshops and one-on-one sessions for different audiences including production crew, staff, faculty, students, and other talent
  • Participate in regular BNTS planning meetings with academics and other departments
  • Prepare production budget and schedule and submit for approval, and ensure all projects stay within budget and on schedule
  • Assist in preparing quarterly reports for the board on various production projects
  • Advise SUM management in the procurement of new production equipment, software and building of new studios
  • Evaluate analytics and continually look for ways to improve and advance our production methodologies, processes, workflows, and partnerships
  • Recruit and manage relationships with outside vendors, as needed

Technical Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clients (faculty/staff/administration) to create and evaluate proposals, outlines, scripts, and storyboards for clarity of purpose, consideration of audience, and appropriate creative and technical approach
  • Estimate production requirements (including equipment and crew), provide budget estimates and schedule, and evaluate copyright, clearance, and release requirements
  • Communicate with clients through all phases of each project to obtain client feedback, to solve problems in a timely manner, and to keep projects on schedule.
  • Plan, procure, and allocate production equipment and crew as per the approved project budget and schedule
  • Assign projects and positions to production crew members such as editors, directors of photography/videography, videographers, sound recordists, grips, and production assistants, for every project/production
  • Provide creative and technical guidance and direction and track hours worked
  • Perform the work of editor, director of photography/videography, videographer, and sound recordist as needed
  • Ensure the pacing, lighting, shooting, and graphic styles are all consistent with the institutional brand and communicate the desired narrative in line with SUM’s global mission
  • Effectively manage of post-production that includes editing, providing notes to video editors, giving clear directions, and managing the quality of the end product as per agreed standards
  • Operate and/or oversee the use of a variety of post-production software applications for video editing, audio editing, graphics creation, animations, compositing, compressing, encoding/transcoding, and captioning
  • Coordinate the archiving of video assets for short- and long-term storage and access
  • Oversee the preparation, duplication, and delivery of video and related materials for a variety of distribution channels including online social media and other broadcast platforms

Job Requirements and Qualifications (Knowledge, Skill and Ability)

  • A minimum of 7 years full-time experience in digital, video, livestreaming, television, or film production. Must include on-set experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Film/Video Production, Communications, Journalism, Television Production, Media Arts, or related area. Master’s degree preferred
  • Expertise with video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve
  • Expertise in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, In Design, After Effects, etc.
  • Expertise in video streaming platforms such as Vimeo, OBS, vMix, Wirecast, etc.
  • Working knowledge of project management and office collaboration tools such as Microsoft Office/Teams/Project, Slack, G-Suite, etc.
  • Expertise in handling switchers, audio boards, routers, GFX creation, cameras, lighting, microphones, and other production equipment and software
  • Knowledge of broadcast and online video distribution platforms
  • Ability to lift, move, and place production equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand and move around for extended periods of time
  • Exceptional skills at planning and scheduling all aspects of creative development and production with a high level of detail
  • Ability to lead, manage, inspire, coach, and build a high-quality production team
  • Excellent creativity and ability to troubleshoot technical and other issues in production
  • Effective verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Work with an ethnically and culturally diverse group of people
  • Ability to navigate competing priorities and prioritize resources appropriately
  • Possess a stable job record
  • Honest, ethical and operates in a confidential manner
