SQA Services is looking for an on-site Safety Engineer (SE) to provide Mission Assurance Support. The SE will support two NASA Projects.

This aerospace SE will be very experienced, with at least 15 years of hands-on work experience with NASA Projects. They should have the ability and desire to work in a team environment.

Travel will be required. You are expected to accompany the spacecraft from Gilbert, AZ to Vandenberg AFB Lompoc, CA late in 2020.
Following are typical requirements and job functions of the SE:

  • Hazard Analysis & Safety compliance evaluations
  • Technical operations procedures evaluations
  • Provide independent inspection and surveillance of integration, installation, and testing or function checkout of hardware as needed.
  • Work with NASA agency-wide working groups to solicit inputs and recommendations on minimizing risk in this area
  • Coordinate and provide expertise to the assigned Project Working Group
  • Provide system safety expertise and oversight at launch site processing facility and launch site for hazardous and critical operations and processing activities This includes:
    • Physically monitoring and overseeing operations on the floor
    • Reviewing procedures to ensure all hazards are appropriately controlled
  • Perform Assessments / Audits of onsite facility
  • Review of contractor documentation and deliverables
  • Monitoring the delivery, storage and transport of flight and non-flight hardware, and any GSE
  • Monitoring of hazardous and critical operations
  • Support the Interim Response lead for Mishaps/Close Calls
  • Ensure Safety Requirement Compliance and Implementation by:
    • Recommending hazard analysis techniques and methods
    • Providing peer support to the Project organization
    • Working with design, technical, and mission support personnel and engineers to identify hazards, controls, applicable safety requirements and means for demonstrating compliance
    • Maintaining awareness of GIDEP Alerts

Additional physical and technical requirements:

  • Ability to work in Cleanroom for a full work day
  • Ability to climb scaffolding
  • Ability to understand technical drawings
  • Ability to determine, develop, and defend technical requirements
  • Ability to plan, maintain, and sustain a System Safety program
  • Ability to provide safety support and recommendations for hardware, operations and test activities
  • Ability to identify operational hazards and applicable safety controls
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage a System Safety program
  • Ability to interact with management and elevate issues as needed to ensure all safety concerns are addressed and resolved
  • Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Ability to obtain ESD Workmanship Certification
  • Have excellent verbal and written skills
  • Have problem-solving skills
