SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

The Senior Service Coordinator provides clinical case management support to residents and provides guidance to assist residents solve daily challenges and develop personally. Assists in the administration of program operations. This position is ideal for a person that is empathetic to the plight of our residents and has knowledge of resources in Washington, DC.

TW Perry Single Adult Housing program provides long term housing to 150 adults and is located on 45th Street in NE Washington, DC.

Schedule: Monday and Wednesday 10:30 am - 7:00 pm Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9:30 am - 6:00 pm.


Required: Bachelors Degree in Human Services field; 2 yrs. experience working with homeless or substance abuse and mental health issues; Candidates with Social Work degrees must be licensed to practice.

Required License/Certification: CPR/First Aid

Expected Contributions/Case Management/Community Development/Program Admin:
  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate on-going therapeutic groups as well as facilitate individual therapy utilizing motivational enhancement theory
  • Responsible for providing clinical case management services utilizing the strength-based perspective and integrating motivational enhancement theory. Provide referrals to residents as needed.
  • Perform intakes, annual assessments i.e. psycho-socials, career assessment and know how to incorporate findings into case management services.
  • Provide assistance to residents for observed and reported concerns regarding sobriety, mental health, physical health, etc. Provide access to recovery services for eligible residents.
  • Assist residents in obtaining job training, higher education, employment, money management, financial literacy and other supportive services; coordinate follow-up, monitor and track service outcomes making necessary adjustments to services based on progress and need
  • Develop and coordinate activities, educational groups and various community events for adults
  • Identify resources and presenters to assist in activities
  • Record unusual incidents, problems, violations of house guidelines and maintenance repairs; submit incident reports as required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for motivational enhancement interviewing
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and individualized services. This includes understanding residents' needs, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluating of satisfaction.
  • Understanding of issues of trauma and mental health
  • Ability to use sound judgement to respond in crisis situations
  • Utilization of logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Ability to effectively document residents progress towards goals electronically
  • Ability to educate and teach residents how to access and utilize community resources
  • Ability to perform and complete an accurate resident assessment and effectively document residents' progress towards goals.
  • Ability to set professional boundaries

Reports To: Program Manager

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing prior to or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit for long periods. May need to drive to off-site meetings and events
