Position Overview:

This is a new business development position, otherwise known as outside sales.

Our 40-year-old, family owned company continues to grow and has an opening for a Business Account Executive that will be responsible for acquiring and supporting the marketing, print & sign needs of business to business clients. If you are still interested make sure to read this entire listing.

Some of the activities of the position include qualifying leads, sales appointments, proposal presentations and follow up. The ability to leverage modern technology including computers, the internet, social media and email are integral to the role. You will be required to make phone calls to people you don’t know, you must be willing to call and call and call again. Seriously if you are not willing to follow up you should not apply.

Success in this position will require you to create business conversations with complete strangers; many of who won’t want to talk to you, it is not easy. If you are looking to punch a time-clock and collect a paycheck this is not the job for you. If however you are looking for a career opportunity with an uncapped commission structure this might be what you are looking for.

The right candidate has experience in B2B sales, new account development and account management. Important traits include being energetic, positive, self-motivated, detailed and a strong people person. Background in print, marketing, signage, direct mail or promotional products is a plus.

The Important Stuff You Must Have:

  • You must be nice to the people who are our customers and those that you work with even when they don't deserve it
  • Be a good communicator - in person, on the phone and able to compose an email that doesn't look like a 3rd grader wrote it
  • Have a basic technical aptitude with computers and internet type stuff
  • Like to work and work while at work (a post to Instagram won't kill anyone as long as you get your work done)
  • Must be able to be on your feet all day and lift up to 30 lbs like most humans
  • Be a multi-tasking Ninja, we do a lot in a short amount of time, this is no place for the proactively challenged
  • Basic math is a must, but yes you can use a calculator
  • Must be willing to jump in and figure things out on your own, no hand holding here
  • You must be a life-long learner to work here. Lots to learn and it's always changing
  • Willingness to pick up the phone and call someone, then call again and then make another call, seriously you have to talk on the phone to people and initiate conversations

Big Pluses If You Have:

  • Sold stuff B2B or at least know what B2B is
  • Any kind of graphic design or past print experience
  • A background in the sign industry
  • Understanding of direct mail and the data that drives it
  • Software experience with the Adobe Creative Suite or Microsoft Office
  • Utilized a CRM system

Salary and Commission potential $40,000-60,000 first year earnings


  • Prospects for new customers, develops new business, targets key prospects, and retains business
  • Presents and discusses the products and services of the company in a way that conveys an image of quality, integrity, and superior understanding and fulfillment of customer needs
  • Understands and complies with the sales system/program in place
  • Develops annual sales strategy in conjunction with management and identifies joint marketing opportunities where applicable
  • Keeps current on new technology
  • Communicates effectively with management and the marketing and production teams, informing and updating them regularly to guarantee that sales and customer objectives are met
  • Follows systems and procedures according to the company manuals
  • Participates as a key team player by supporting operations as needed
  • Qualifies leads, making a minimum of 20 contacts per day via telemarketing
  • Makes 50 speedy calls per week, 25 on prospects in the database and 25 on prospects not in the database
  • Gathers information on decision-makers and adds that information to the database
  • Develops rapport with prospects and builds relationships with customers
  • Conveys the value of our company's capabilities to prospects
  • Develops and executes an ongoing plan to target at least five key accounts per month
  • Establishes eight new accounts per month
  • Completes at least three sales appointments with customers and/or prospects per day
  • Sends thank you notes and/or letters to prospects/customers each day
  • Follows up on all outstanding quotes for assigned customers and prospects within 24 hours
  • Maintains current customer accounts as assigned by offering printing/copying consulting services, following up on quotes, and handling customer satisfaction issues
  • Reviews the Modular sales training program and completes the test
  • Views at least one training video or listens to one tape series per month, as determined by manager
  • Attends regional/national training seminars
  • Attends daily sales meetings and keeps manager aware of special order deadlines and finishing requirements to ensure the most efficient delivery schedule possible
  • Attends weekly sales meetings to discuss outstanding quotes and review the targeted account plan, new customer work orders, and other outstanding issues
  • Provides timely and accurate reports on all sales activities as needed
  • Enters relevant data on each prospect/customer contact into the contact management program
  • Stays current with new technology and marketing programs
  • Meets or exceeds performance goals set by manager
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with coworkers
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Must be willing and able to work both indoors and out, including driving to meet with customers and prospects and being subject to the environments of customer facilities
  • Must be able to spend several hours per day operating a motor vehicle
  • Must be willing and able to work in an environment that includes exposure to ink and chemical fumes, airborne particles (dust, drying powder, etc.), and loud noise levels
