Job Title: Interior Designer
Department: Architecture
Reports to: Managing Director/Studio Director
FLSA Status: Exempt

INTERIOR DESIGNER
The Interior Designer position at SGA|NW, a GF design company, reports to a Managing Director/Studio Director.

DESCRIPTION
Facilitate and coordinate assigned projects from project analysis to completion while managing the design team.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position requires working closely with a team of in-house architects, interior designers, planners, landscape architects and consultants on multiple projects with a variety of project diversity throughout the Southeast to meet scheduled deliverables. The successful candidate must be a leader, self-starter, organized, flexible and possess a strong work ethic.

The following duties are normal for the position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • As an Interior Designer you are responsible for interpreting, organizing and executing the conceptual design of a project utilizing creativity, foresight and judgment to meet project requirements and objectives to carry out design.

  • Conducts programming efforts such as space planning, layout and utilization of furnishings and equipment, lighting and color coordination.

  • Develops innovative design concepts which are practical, aesthetic, safe and conducive to intended purposes and function which is reflective of client goals and within project budget.

  • Coordinates color and material palettes.

  • Responsible for selection and specification of furniture, lighting, flooring, wall covering and artwork. Estimates material requirements and preliminary costs. Incorporates Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.

  • Renders conceptual design ideas and prepares 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings.

  • Prepares and conducts client presentations.

  • Prepares, corrects and updates documents during schematic design and design development phases.

  • Solicits bids and assists Project Manager and client in subcontracting fabrication, installation, and arrangement of the materials, finishes, and furnishings required.

  • Responsible for keeping the project, or a phase of a project, on schedule.

  • Responsible for communication with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provides support as necessary.

  • Supports the Construction Administration phase responding to RFI's, CO's, and reviews shop drawings.

  • Implements and utilizes SGA|NW's Standards for all projects and processes.

  • May provide support to all team members for specific field, style, or phase of interior design expertise.

  • May attend industry-, client- and market-specific events.

  • May mentor and direct the work of less experienced staff and deliver staff performance evaluations.

  • May participate in interviews and recruiting of professional staff.

  • Takes personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.

  • Fosters a commitment to external and internal client service.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture from a CIDA accredited program.

  • Experience in a professional design office.

  • Comfortable in a support role and ability to work with minimum supervision.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects.

  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills.

  • Presentation skills.

  • Ability to cultivate a professional presence through competence, reliability, honesty, integrity, respect for others, positivity, and thoughtfully listening.

  • Proficiency in Revit and Enscape.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office setting, onsite at client locations and on construction/build sites.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires sufficient physical ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform work in an office setting; which includes, extensive employee contact, frequent interruptions, the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time, to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist, to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight, to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard, to verbally communicate to exchange information, to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation, to verbally communicate to exchange information with or without accommodation, to see in the normal visual range with or without correction, and can hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. This position requires physical mobility on and around construction sites prior to and after the installation of landscaping, pavement, stairs, elevators, electricity, heating and air conditioning.
