Indie Wine & Beer Bar, San Francisco Wine Center
The San Francisco Wine Center and Indie Wine Bar seek organized, detail-oriented, dynamic self-starters to join our creative wine company. This is an exciting and unique opportunity. We are seeking folks with a strong work ethic, love for food & wine, with a true understanding and passion for hospitality. Candidates must be highly motivated, creative, with superior communication and organizational skills, and a high level of dedication and discipline. Deep wine knowledge and hospitality experience are definite pluses but candidates with personality and a strong interest and passion to learn about wine and food will certainly be considered for important roles. Roles can be full time or part time.
Specific roles for which we are recruiting include:
Sous Chef - execute our daily seasonal wine bar menu which will be paired with a special selection of wines from all over the world, aged wines, collectible wines rarely available anywhere, and the best craft and imported beers we have tasted. Work with our other chefs who will curate rotating small plates and special offerings like sushi and raw bar. You will have the chance to train and mange other kitchen staff and also learn from those other great chefs.
Wine School Instructors and Sommeliers - the Wine School @ San Francisco Wine Center has been offering the best in U.S. wine education since 2010 and we will continue this legacy at our new location in the beautiful private event and classroom space. A couple of our long-time instructors relocated to other cities while we were moving to our new location so we have a rare opportunity to bring on 2-3 more instructors. Wine School Instructors can also work in the wine bar as Sommeliers to share their deep wine and food knowledge with our guests outside the classroom. Preference will be given to those with unique skills and experiences you can share with our students such and MW and MS certifications, wine writers and top wine directors. Referrals from our current and previous instructors and wine industry friends will also be welcomed.
Wine Bar staff - servers, kitchen staff, and support staff with a passion for food and wine and desire to learn and expand your industry knowledge in a fun and fast passed team environment. Staff will have the opportunity to learn from our chefs and Wine School instructors on a nightly basis and also sit in on classes in the Wine School.
SF Wine Center Marketing, Operations and Warehouse team - SF Wine Center is the premier wine storage and services facility in the Bay Area and offers temperature-controlled storage, inventory and shipping services, cellar consulting and retail sales. We are looking for additional team members to assist with online and traditional marketing, storage client services, and warehouse services during the daytime hours. Warehouse staff must be able to lift and carry 40lbs on a regular basis. Marketing and operation roles could include creative writing and campaign strategy/digital design/management, data analytics, SEM, SEO, Website, CRM, Email, E-commerce, and Social Media. Candidates interested in working both daytime and evening hours can apply for both SF Wine Center marketing, operations and warehouse roles as well as Indie Wine Bar evening and weekend roles.

General Qualifications for Indie Wine & Beer Bar
o Passion for wine, excellent wine service, general wine knowledge and ability to talk about and sell wine
o Highly motivated and outstanding work ethic
o Experience working quickly and efficiently during busy restaurant, retail, or bar service
o Attention to guest needs in a detail-oriented, strong customer-service setting
o Initiative to keep the Wine Bar clean and stocked
o Knowledge and experience with POS systems such as Square a plus
o Must be able to work nights, some weekends and holidays
o 21 years of age or older, except for non-service roles
o Front of House team members ensure customers are greeted within 10 seconds, are given a tour of the wine bar and event space, receive information about the menu and retail take home sales offers, and are assisted with any questions they have regarding their wine and food needs.
o Comfort working indoors and outdoors in our planned large patio area
General Qualifications and Desired Skills for SF Wine CenterStaff Roles
o An intense desire to market and expand unique business model and expand your wine knowledge
o Be familiar with and maintain knowledge of product offerings including storage, cellar consulting, retail sales, classes, private events
o Monitor online orders and pull wines for customer in-store pick-up
o Process in-store sales and phone orders using e-commerce software and POS system
o Be extremely organized and detail oriented with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload efficiently
o Assist in receiving new deliveries and keeping storage areas neat and organized
o Ensure the office, warehouse and wine bar greeting areas are clean and presentable to clients and customers
o Be skilled in using Word, Excel and other necessary software programs
o Ability to lift and move cases of wine (40lbs)
Additional Qualifications and Desired Skills for SF Wine Centerand Indie Wines Management Roles
o BA/BS degree or equivalent experience and training
o Experience managing social media and online advertising (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Google AdWords, Linked In etc.)
o Established Alcohol beverage network, personal interest, bias to engage and go deeper, proven inquisitiveness.
o Established relationships within the luxury industry
o Skill in effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clientele, customers and the general public.
o Skill in solving practical problems and dealing with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
o Skill in interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
o Develop and implement comprehensive marketing campaigns (traditional and online) to attract new wine collectors and wine customers
o Develop marketing and communication materials for Wine Storage, Wine Sales, Wine Classes and Wine Events, both nationally and internationally
o Responsible for developing and establishing relationships with local and international wineries, wine auctions houses and wine importers
o Measure the effectiveness of marketing, advertising, and communications programs and strategies
o Lead market research related to Wine Collector segments. Identify target market segment needs and value propositions.
o Develop positive rapport with potential new Storage Members and represent the San Francisco Wine Center to the public
o Research and track industry, client, and competitor news and information
o Minimum of 2 to 4 years of marketing experience
o Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
o Customer service driven with focus on customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
o Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning
o Experience in or knowledge of the fine and rare wine segment
o Knowledge of consumer segmentation, database marketing and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solutions
o Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to present to a large and diverse audience
o Strong organizational, planning, project management and problem resolution skills
o Detail oriented and results focused
o Creative ability to “think outside the box" and take ownership of projects and events
o Skill in seeing, smelling and tasting wine as part of wine tasting
