The job
As a member of the SCAN’s Public, Government, and Community, Affairs (PGA) team, the Health Policy Analyst will research and analyze federal and state legislative and regulatory health policy issues, with a focus on policy issues of importance to the company, ranging from health equity to Medicare Advantage, Part D, and Medicaid payment policy. The Health Policy Analyst will interact with SCAN staff across the organization and participate in meetings with policymakers, industry trade groups, and non-governmental organizations that influence public policy.
You Will
Assist in the formulation of public policy positions, prepare regulatory comment letters, for-the-record comments to Congress and government agencies, and develop additional internal and external communications that accurately reflect SCAN's positions.
Create and disseminate advocacy materials that successfully communicate SCAN's public policy positions, including fact sheets, talking points, bill, and regulatory summaries.
Develop, manage, and promote external events that drive SCAN's legislative agenda and enhance SCAN's image.
Collaborate with internal SCAN departments to develop materials specific to SCAN's services for the communities served.
Work with PGA VP and Senior Policy Advisory to develop SCAN public policies, legislative goals, and strategies.
Research and write policy memos, fact sheets, talking points, and newsletters.
Attend, take notes, and report back on relevant legislative hearings, policy summits, and other state and federal policy events.
Interact with key SCAN staff throughout the organization for input on policy positions on proposed legislation.
Participate in strategic research discussions, including attending representing SCAN at external coalition meetings.
Assist in preparation of presentations.
Support the PGA team, as necessary.
Actively support the achievement of SCAN’s Vision and Goals.
Other duties as assigned.
Your qualifications
- Required: BA or greater in Business Administration, Public Health, Health Administration, Public Policy, Social Work, or related field
- Experience in federal or state health policy
- Demonstrated passion for health policy and alignment with SCAN’s mission, particularly the welfare of older adults and vulnerable populations
- Able to work a hybrid schedule (remote and in office)
- Strong research and writing skills
- Team player with strong people skills and the ability to effectively interact both inside the organizatio and externally
- Flexible and willing to manage an ever-changing work environment
- Demonstrated willingness to learn
- Occasional travel as needed
